cooling system

i got a qusetion about the cooling system on my sunbird... i just bought it yesterday, and now i noticed that there was steam coming out from under the hood. so i opened the hood, and saw that some coolant was leaking out from up under the thermostat cap. So, i drained some of the liquid, and it doesnt seem to be leaking anymore, but the steam is still there. I took another look at it, and now the steam is coming from the radiator itself. I noticed that the fan doesnt turn on, or maybe it does, but i havent seen it turn on yet. Is there anything i can do?

Check your coolant after your engine cools off Is it full? Also make sure your cap is tightened all the way, on my old bird i actually had to use pliers to tighten it all the way. If its full and your cap is all the way tightened you may have a leak in your radiator, but don't jump to conclusions too quick. Check to see how much fluiid you're losing and if your engine is running hot. As far as the fan I think its controlled by the thermostat but I'm not positive on that, never had any trouble with mine so I never worked on it.
