Anyone know what other 5 speed transmissions that will fit the 2.0? like the ones in the 87-91 z24's maybe?

Nope the sunbird OHC motor uses a different trans bolt pattern than the 2.0OHV in cavs / 3.1MPFI in Z24s. You'll have to find a trans from a sunbird.

We're using a 93 sunbird mpfi engine for a race car and need transmissions. anyone have a list of what other model cars that have transmissions that will bolt up?

The Chev OHV engines will bolt to the GM v6 trans. Pontiac OHC engines use a different bolt pattern. GM's quad 4 family, 2.3 and 2.4L engines use yet another bolt pattern. The Muncie/ Getrag (v6 type) transmission internals can be interchanged if you happen to find one trans with a desirable gear and / or final drive ratio but doesn't fit your engine.

The same or similar Isuzu trans as what's used in your car was used with 2.0 and 2.2 OHV engines from somewhere around 84 or 85 to 2000. The isuzu trans' shift forks and synchros are reportedly a weak link as well as spider gears. The muncie trans seems to live longer in tough situations. There was also a muncie 4 spd used in Fieros and the earliest Cavaliers. This trans was available with several final drive (ring and pinion) ratios including 4.10:1. It should bolt in where the 5 spd is and may be available for dirt cheap due to little demand. Look at some Fiero sites for more info.

A good source for some of this info is car-part.com. You can pick a year/make/model and look up a part, then look through the list of vehicles that have a compatible part to figure out what swaps.

the ohc 2.0l motor uses its own bellhousing. you need to find one from a 1.8l (it would be a 4 speed, better for racing) or a 2.0l 5 speed. it you are able to find a 1.8l or 2.0l turbo tranny, its a lot better than the N/A tranny. the turbo uses a getrag and you have a lot more avalible parts for it. it uses the smae guts as a v6 or H.O. quad 4.
