alright, yet again the search has failed to work for me so i'm just going to ask away. what is the rear suspension set up in a 2000 2-door sunfire? is it just the struts and a sway bar or something of the like connecting them together or what? the reason i ask is that i just slid sideways into a curb and it tilted the tire in so it looks like it has a lot of camber and also it dented the actual steel wheel inwards. thank god the rubber stuck to the bead and could drive away or i'd be really screwed. it does however bounce up and down as i drive now like it would on a crappy dirt road. so yea, if anyone could fill me in on what that set up is that would be great. thanks
I did that in my old 2nd gen and had someone hit me and have the same effect on my Sunfire.
You likely bent the rear axle.
You've got a twist beam axle with the hub attached to it. If you've bent it, which you almost certainly have, then you've got two options.
Most shops will opt to replace the axle.
Some places with skilled workers though can heat and bend it back into shape. This would be cheaper if you can find a shop that can do it and it's not bent too much.
On my 2nd gen, I just had the axle replaced for around $800.
On the Sunfire, the shop I brought it to fixed it. They were totally old school and good at they do.
$800, damn!! I can get a rear beam axle here for around $100...
yea, i got the estimate for about 950. i got the insurance to cover about half of that. really i should be lucky that nobody was hurt and i didn't do any actual body damage.
Hell I just sold my old rear axle for $25. Yards should have them for less than $100.
