Popping sound in brakes coming from rear?
Sunday, March 04, 2007 5:12 PM
Hey there, just hopeing someone could tell me what my problem with my brakes MAY be...
When i apply my brakes and release them at a stop or when i am not completely stopped there is a popping sound coming from the rear, anyone know what this could be possiabely?
Rear shoes, spring kit acting up??????
My rear drums were brand new last summer, spring kit and shoes however were not replaced, just the drums were...........
This does not effect my braking; just a annoying popping sound when the brakes are released.....
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
terry...

Sounds like the wheel cylinder is locking up on you.

May be time for a brake rebuild on the rear if thats the case.

To check it, remove the drum, and inspect for any type of leaking fluids around the seals of the brake pistons.

I had this problem on my 1990 VL. The wheel cylinders would go into full lock on the rear, which 'caused the wheel cylinder to blow out. The end results was this:

The Car being towed home with no brakes, and a screwed up hood.

On a side note, Ford Rangers make for a great e-brake. lol.
