Brake review (SS lines, powerslot, hawk, neon rear)

So on the Gay Tan Cav I started my brake upgrades....

Well today I started on it, all I did was install the SS lines and flushed out the whole brake system with brand new Valvoline SynPower full synthetic DOT 4 brake fluid (also flushed out the clutch hydraulics with this stuff)

I've never heard anyone bad mouth SS lines, when I have heard them mentioned it always good, people say SS lines are the best bang for your buck brake mod and I couldn't agree more. It makes the whole brake system feel completely different. It doesn't make you brake harder or anything but it makes it feels alot more controled. The pedal is ALOT more firm which makes it alot easier to contorl, for exmaple, before I could stomp the pedal and it would either lock up the brakes or it wouldn't know there is enough responce through the pedal to where you can keep the brakes aplied right up to the point where they are about to lock up. Its really hard to explain but trust me, SS lines are very worth it.

Tommarow I'm doing the Powerslot cryotreated front rotors and Hawk HPS pads. I'll update this thread with a review on those after the "burnishing" procedure and I get a change to give them a work out, most likely on Sunday.

Monday will be time to do Neon rear disck brake conversion with Powerslot rear rotors and Hawk HPS pads. Most likely this monday, it may possibly get delay to the fallowing monday.

Powerslot rear rotors are a waste of money. Plain faced will work just as well.

i cant even begin to tell you all what a difference a good set of rotors and some hawk pads will do. I threw them on my daily z and have gotten so used to driving the car that I brake hard everywhere now (not even knowing anymore). I was driving my dads 07 accord yesterday coming off an offramp and that car doesnt even come remotely close to stopping as hard as my car. Pretty sad considering we still have rear drums.

Blew it up, build numbers coming soon

waste of money.... not really. Overkill... maybe a little bit I'm well aware I would have been fine with regular rotors which is why I only opted for the cryotreated on the fronts and not the rear. My reason for getting powerslots......A clean pad surface will always grab better then a non clean surface, the sloted rotors unsure you will always have a clean face on the friction material, plus I was buying new rotors front and rear so might as well match the rear setup with the fronts.

you can get braided stainless steel lines from a few places. The ones I have came with the group purchase for the neon rear swap. Russel makes direct replacement SS lines, I knwo you can get them through turbotechracing and gravana, I'm sure most of the other JBO companies could get ahold of them for you.

As for everyone else, I put the front brake on today and started to go through the break in procedure Powerslot recommends on the rotors (also meets the requirements for the Hawk pads) I got up to 35 mph and slowed down to 10 with normal average brake pressure about 12 times, I never came to a complete stop holding the brakes, when I had to stop I slowed to a 5 mph roll and stopped the car and held it in place with the parking brake. After the 35-10 stops, I let the car sit for about 15-20 minuets till the brakes cooled, then did 45mph to 10 mph with a decent amount of brake force about 4 times. Then its recommended to drive normally, maybe a little on the gentle side for 200-500 miles before really starting to beat on the brakes. The said proper break in is VERY important and can severly affect braking if not done.

First impression... the first time I hit the brakes i was surprised how much bite they had. Now changing the pads and rotors doesn't change the force of the pressure or anything so it has to be direct relation to the new brakes but it stopped alot harder with alot less brake effort. I haven't really stomped on the brakes yet because I'm still waiting for the break in period to be over but so far I like them alot, especially with the SS lines. So far so good, very pleased.

I see you are selling the rear kit in the classifieds.

So I assume we are not getting a review on them then?

What made you change your mind?
