Replacing E Brake Handle
Wednesday, March 28, 2007 7:33 PM
I have a 98 Z 5 Spd

I can pull the E Brake handle up and it works fine but the handle will not lock so the Ebrake stays engaged

So i have no parking brake

I grabbed a new E Brake handle assembly from a 2002 Sunfire today

Question is how do i install this? Where do i get enough slack in the line to get it on the wheel? Do i have to disconnect the cable at the rear?

Thanks

Yes, you have to disconnect the cable in the rear.....good luck man, its a Biotch. Its actually easier to just remove the right side cable IIRC.

Muhaha one pair of vice grips to pull out the cable, another set to pinch it so the cable couldn't go back in.

Never had to disconnect the rear breaks, whole thing took about 30 mins

If you disconnect the rear brakes the job becomes so much easier......its not even difficult once the passenger rear ebrake cable is disconnected. But disconnecting it will be harder than it seems but will be worth all the time you spend on it.
