Air Ride questions
Monday, April 16, 2007 11:43 AM
Alright guys when it comes to air ride i am a complete and total noobie. My friend offered me 2 easy street cylinders and a 3 gallon tank for $150. He said that he also has some bags for the front for me too. Now the question I have is what else do I need? Basically I want just a decent setup, for at shows so i'm low low and when i'm riding on @!#$ty PA roads I want to have some height. I'm also a bigger guy and it's a 4 door sunfire with stock suspension if that matters at all for the setup I need.

well, if its strictly the tank onlly...no fittings or valves or anything, off the top of my head, heres a quick list of what else you'd need

air lines
gauges
switchbox
8 valves w/ solenoids
all the extra little fittings
compressor

hmmmm, i feel like im missing some things here but thats a good start

pressure switch
water trap (not needed but i recommend them)

you dont really need 8 valves. 8 are for a fbss kit if you just want a simple front up and down and back up and down then you only need 4 valves. also as far as i know easystreet doesnt make cylinders for our cars, just bags

^^so if i wanted side to side I would need 8 valves? I'll do the water trap and anything else to ensure I dont run into problems.

ya ud need 8. 4 for fill and 4 for dump. 1 fill and 1 dump for each corner

water trap is helpful. less chance of getting water in your tank and air lines

mine got a little rusty inside so i took it out. havent had any issues, but i will be replacing it soon

anything else I can get to ensure a long lasting setup?

also, what happens with the stock setup? do the bag/cylinders replace those parts or what?

it replaces everything. it should come with mounts and everything needed. just drain the tank every month and water trap every week to ensure that water stays out of the tank. there is really no way to predict that nothing will happen to the kit. you could break a fitting or put a hole in the air line at any time. its pretty easy to maintain though.

With the easy street Strut kit, its all bolt on.

Takes about 6-8 hours of work to do. Well, it took my friend Jake and I 6 hours, but that was also extra time it took to roll the fenders, and weld drag blocks.

I've never done cylinders, so I can't tell ya there.

But everything will be replaced on the suspension. You will not use any part of your McPherson Strut assembly's.

1/2 or 3/8 Line for the valves (50ft)
8 Valves
Gauges
1/4 line for most non-digital gauges (20ft I think)
switches
compressor
compressor feed line (should come with it)
air tank
various fittings
4 grommets
Loctite or Tread sealer

id still double check and make sure what he is giving you is correct because i didnt think easystreet made cylinders for our cars

oh yeah you're right, the kid was sayin not easy street cause they suck and break? and he said that the cylinders are Parker.

Screw Cylinders....

Do strut bags up front, custom linked rear

Or just buy the full EasyStreet kit so you know you have everything.

Worth the money.

EasyStreet does not make cylinders... you DO NOT want cylinders. You want air strut bags.

okay whats the deal with cylinders compared to bags? whats the difference between the two and how do they work?

Re: Air Ride questions

Cylinders tend to ride a little more rough.

Bags can be a bit more gentle.

the Easy Street bags (as well as AIM) are a bolt on kit. Which makes install cake. They also have damping capabilities. Which means you can change the stiffness of the strut to a firm to soft ride.

Cylinders tend to me faster, and give you more lift, but I've seen a lot of the shafts bend on daily driven cars.

do not buy universal suspension parts.

theres good and bad about both

bags ride smoother where as cylinders you need accumulators to make it ride alittle smoother. if a bag breaks you can replace it but you cant rebuild it like you can rebuild a cylinder (depending on what broke). cylinders you have the ability to suck the wheels up in the wheel well.

**edit**

forgot to add, never buy anything from aim. nothing!

cylinders ride just as good as bags dont use them in the front on a macpherson strut front. Use them on the back they r fine. they r faster and ride height will be a hair higher than the easystreets (not even an inch). they r nice for the rear because you can set your drop with adjusting the bracket for your laid out height depending on your kit and all that.

I have had cylinders on the rear of my sunfire for 4 years and they r now on my cav never had a problem with them and have amazed people that have full easystreet kits that mine rides and handles better than theres because i can stiffen the cylinder ride.

Oh and for those people that want to come in here and say that the easystreet kit is the only way to go but the only air ride experience you have is bolting on your easystreet kit just keep your mouths shut because you dont know what your talking about and u dont need to waste his time listening to your ignorance.

I've had both, and there's a NIGHT & DAY DIFFERENCE between the two. They're not in the same league.

The AIM kit I first had was bags front, cylinders rear. Not even comparable to the EasyStreet kit I had after that. What I'm stating is based on personal experience & my opinion. We each have an opinion on the matter

aim is garbage. they make @!#$ty products and all there @!#$ breaks. on top of it there fittings are plastic

i think were getting off topic here... TO THE OP: i'd go with the easysteet stuff if you dont know what your doing. remember this is your suspension... it's not like a bodykit or a lambo door.. it breaks you replace it..... this is your suspension it breaks your F*******D car goes down because of a broken part at 70-80mph... and something catches all of a sudden your spinning out of control or worse yet your car ends up on it's roof.......... i happen to like the direction your goin w the fire and would prefer not to see that happen to you!

watch for flying sparks!!!

i am not saying to voice your opinion i am just so sickof the people on here that have only had the easystreet kit and say thats the only thing anyone should ever go with. YOu have had both and you actually know what you r talking about compared to most other people on here. The aim bags suck in general and ruin the cylinders. I have had my cylinders in the rear with cylinders aims and easystreets in the front and the aim was worse than cylinders all around the easystreets with the cylinders is the perfect mix and i wouldnt changethem for anything except for the lift bar setup i am working in right now

i hope your not directing that to me. i have plenty of friends that have air ride with a mix of both. ive seen cylinders first hand and rode in cars with cylinders and to me it does not compare to bags. im not saying easystreet is the best out there. im sure you can make a custom kit that is much better but if your looking for a full kit, direct bolt in, easystreet is your best bet.
