Pairing springs and shocks
Monday, May 26, 2008 8:37 AM
I've decided to go with lowering springs over a coil-over setup as I won't have a need for adjusting and I am looking at Koni springs. I have read a few articles quickly that talk about matching springs to struts/shocks. Can anyone speak on this from there own experience? If I go with the Koni springs should I stay with them for the shocks?

Can you even order Koni springs separate from the shocks? I thought they came together as a kit.

Unless of course you're buying them used.

By all means get the kit though... it's a very nice setup.

I was looking on their site and they had spring sets.

Thanks for the tip.

Buying it as a kit would gaurantee the dampers are valved for the spring rates. Mixing and matching and then ending up with something that works well is a crapshoot. KYBs aren't re-valveable, but the AGXs are adjustable. Who knows what spring rates they're designed for though. Most manufacturers use a baseline spring rate (probably a touch above stock), and go from there when they valve their dampers. At least with Konis, you can get a package thats designed as a unit, and if you ever decide on different springs, yo can simply have the Koni dampers re-valved.

Does anyone know what Eibach recommends for shocks with the SportLines?

Because of the drop you are going to want some Koni struts. I'm not sure if there is others (probably) that can handle that drop. Tein struts I'm sure would be ok. KYB's I believed are designed for a 1.5 drop no more.

sportlines need either koni yellows or tokico dspecs. there is a sticky at the top of this forum. please read it and get familiar with it. it helps explain the different types of springs and struts and what is a good combo for what.
