Baer Brakes Yes I searched..........(Rotors&Pads)
Saturday, May 31, 2008 3:18 PM
Ok I have my new toys in, and took a look at both my BB front and rear setups, anf figured I need to replace a few items. I know I can use 88-94 Corvette pads for the front, and Im pretty certain for the rear its 93-97 Camaro Pads or 95-00 Corvette pads (Someone Verify this for me). Now I need to know about the rotors, I wanna replace the rear brake rotors and maybe the front. Problem is I don't have a clue as to where to look for them, I checked Baer's website and got nada. I really dont trust modifying another set of rotors(i.e drilling holes) so they fit. Where does everyone pick up there stuff when they need to replace these things. Thanks

Mine have a lot of life left, but I'm curious about this myself.

Mine still look like they've got no wear after a few years use.

To answer the question though... I don't think any off-the-shelf rotors would work. Whatever you get, you'll need machined with the new bolt pattern and perhaps a different hub bore with the tapered edge to fit an adapter.

Might be best to just call Baer and ask them.

Mine are two-piece, so if I ever end up having to replace them, I should be able to get some standard sized outer ring.

I don't know for sure, but I think you have the years backwards on the rears. The earlier Vette and the later Camaro.

Are your rotors the 1 piece or 2 piece?

I am 98.795% sure there is no off the shelf rotor for these. out of curiosity, why are you replacing instead of just a fresh re-surface?

They are the one piece rotors. The reason Im replacing is due to the rear rotors not matching the front and the rears looking a tad bit worn and stressed. The rear is drilled only while the front is the normal Baer brakes(drilled/slotted). The original owner of them used a different brake disc for the rear and had everything drilled out. I figured if I have to replace the ones in the back might as well replace them all and start fresh, with new rotors and pads.

Depending on cost, you might wanna stick with resurfacing the front....but then again, I dont know your budget....Sounds to me like the reason the rears are stressed is because they were drilled....but do you mean they have a different bolt pattern drilled in them....or the cooling cross drilling was not put in the origional rotor??

Are you running the GT kit?? I think that is the one with the 1 piece design, and GT Plus has the 2 piece??

Its the Baer sport and track kits Im running, so they are single rotor application where the rotor is one piece not two. I might just surface the front to def save cost, but in the long run if I have to replace them I would like to know just in case. The rears do have 2 bolt patterns drilled into them, and the rotors themselves look like they can use a lot of TLC.

The Pads I def need to know if the years are reversed so I can at least get them. Im not picking up the Baer pads reason being I prefer Hawk and EBC pads.

If they're slotted or drilled, you may not be able to have them resurfaced.

I have never had a problem resurfacing them.....so long as they still have a chamfer around the holes.

A lot of places dont want to for fear of ruining lots of bits on the lathe. I have not seen this cause premature pad wear in any way though.

I have the original Baer set from Matt Teske's car. I replaced the rear pads last year for the first time. The front pads, as well as all the rotors, still look almost new.

Info directly from Baer:

A small 3.5" x 2" laminated card which shows "Baer Claw® Brake System - Pad Service Info" on one side and "Baer Facts of High Performance Handling" on the other, is included within the bag that contains the installation instructions for any Baer Claw® brake system. The card shows the "Type of Baer System", the "FMSI Number" (this is a standardized number by which any brake pad manufacturer can cross reference the pad in question). The following is a reprint of this info:
Brake System FMSI Number Common OE Applications

This reference is a great item to keep in your glove box. If you would like to have a couple extra cards, mail a self addressed stamped envelope to Baer PAD/HANDLING Card, at 3108 West Thomas Road, Suite 1201, Phoenix, Arizona 85017-5306.

As he said, his rotors still look new. See some of the above posts for rotor info. I believe you'd need to get them directly from Baer unless you have access to a machine shop.

Yeah i have been running my Baers for 5 years and swapped to three different Js Ive owned and not once have I had to even resurface the rotors. I have gone through 3 sets of pads and the rotors still look great with tons of abuse on them. Baer certainly wins in my heart for a well overall kit that well surpasses the braking needs of any J Body. Not to mention they survived an incredible fire and still keep on keepin on.

Call Gravana for pricing info they can get it for you.
