Cv axles? Where they input into transmission

I'm trying to figure out if having a lil play in the cv shaft where they input into the transmission is normal? When I have my car jacked up w/ wheels of the ground. I grabbed the cv axle and could wiggle it up and down a lil hoping this normal. I just replaced the cv axle seals

A small amount of play is normal, but anything loose enough to deform the seal is too much.

Seals are not deformed just replaced them because they were old. But the small amount of play is up and down more a less rather than side to side. If that matters? But like I said I grabbed the tripod housing of axle near transmission side when checking the play.
