I am wondering if the tein setup requires the strut mounds like the similar rksport prostreet setup, I have not heard anyone mention that they needed these, but was curious.

The TEIN Basic coilover system states that you need 2000+ strut mounts. My '04 mounts work just fine.

not real familiar with the struts etc, so does that mean that u have to remove them from old one and use then? or is this part thats actually on the car.

the strut mounts come out with the strut/spring that's currently on their

honestly, you'll understand more when it's all apart

I'd scan and post the assembly diagram for you if I wasn't moving to michigan tomorrow.

Anyway, you use the strut mount that you already have on your stock struts, and you put them on the Tein struts (on top of the spring hat of course.)

So it goes:

Stock strut mount
spring hat
spring
strut

Yeah, that diagram would be nice about now.

you have to reuse or get the mounts from the 00-05 for them

now it says on the page they drop 2.4/2.5 how does that compare to the rksport setup? I dont plan on riding around slammed, but I wonder if 2.5 will be enough to close the wheel gap up.

with that type j you won't want to go very low anyhow, otherwise you won't have a type j anymore lol

Re: tein coilovers

2.4-2.5 will easily close the wheel gap. id say that you should be fine. ^^like he said if you go any lower you will no longer have your kit.

That sucks. I would not go from AZ to MI...I hope you like cold weather, because the winters are going to be really cold compared to AZ. no comparison really.

Good luck with the move.

Here is a link to the install manual for the Teins, scroll to the bottom of the page and you will see the Basic damper for the J's and there is a download for a PDF file.
click me!

The Basics are a nice setup, I was going to buy them but opted for prostreets instead.

Get Em. TEIN is the best in suspension however I haven't priced the kit's from them yet becuz I already have Koni Yellows on G/C Coilovers but I'm sure they're expensive.

this is probably a stupid question, but are they adjustable? Im asking this because it says that they drop 2.4/2.5, or is that just the maximum they can drop your car?

thanks

That's the maximum, they are a coilover setup.

Hey, to anyone who's thinking about putting these on their cars. I just drove 2500 miles with a loaded car on the TEIN Basics, they ride beautifully. You'll never want for anything else... except some strut tower bars. Damn my car flexes.

I thought they were stiff?

I really wish i could ride in a car with these. If i found the ride fairly comfortable i would buy these tomorrow. Im just afriad of shelling out $1300 CDN for something on a 'whim'
