Who got an alignment.........

I'll be installing Ground Controls on Koni Yellows this spring. Then in the winter I'll raise the Ground Controls up. How many of you got an alignment right away or did you wait a while or did you not get one at all? Just curious............Thanks.

I waited close to 3 weeks to get my alignment, though I'm on sportlines. I think 2 weeks should be plenty of time to let it settle.

Changing your ride height has nothing to do with your alignment settings. It will affect the way your car handles (due to weight changes at the corners) but thats about it.

illd9: your just plain lucky.

You should wait at least 24 hours (with the car sitting on the ground). I would not wait more than 20 miles if it can be helped; and that's assuming you eyeballed it. If it's way off, the distance to an alignment shop is the only tolerable distance.

I destroyed my tires going to and from the bash without aligning it first...

of course... that's 6,000 miles... so.... it's to be expected

It may not have anything too do with your alignment angles, but taking apart and putting back your together your suspension sure does

Get it aligned. Thanks for reminding me, i need to get mine done

Yes, definitely go get it done.

Hes asking if he should get an alignment after he adjusts the ride height for the winter, as far as I can tell from his post, not if he should get an alignment after installing them. Or maybe the post is just a bit misleading.....

I should have worded that better...............

After the install will I need an alignment? Or will the alignment be ok?

I know that I would not need an alignment everytime I raise or lower it though. (Example: Winter raise, Spring drop)
Thanks for the replies....................

i got an alignment right away after i did mine. but then i took them off twice to fix certain things and never did after that. the only uneven tire wear i have from it is due to the camber being off, not the alignment itself.

i put mine on early this spring and never got an alignment because it actually seemed to drive better after the install than before, no tire wear whatsoever so i never bothered.

In that case, I would say within a week or two. After installing a completely new suspension, you don't want to go wearing out tires, ball joints, tie rods, etc.

sorry to break the post but if you get it alligned will it fall even more? I have sport lines on mine and I wanted to know if I got the allignment would it drop any more? or not?

alignment shouldnt change ur ride height.. unless something was really wrong before it.

a very respected mechanic once informed me u do need an allignment after u adjust the coilovers.. mabye just for the camber. im unsure..

i get mine alligned after every 3 times the suspension comes apart... which is often.

It won't affect camber unless you do something drastic like raise one side completely and lower the otherr side completely. It may affect toe, depending on what your specs are, but if its zero it won't. The idea behind adjustable ride height was never to look cool at shows, it was intended for corner weighting the car. Raising and lowering everything at once doesn't change anything but height.

Raising and lower does effect camber. But only a few degrees, and only that over serveral inches. If you go up or down an inch, I wouldn't ever worry about it. If you change 2+" you might want to think about the effects. Changing sides differently will incease this effect. Toe is effected even less, it really isn't a meaningful amount.

Well after 3 weeks of having my Tein's and Koni's installed I thought that I would get my car in for an alignment, since it pulled to the left a little. They set everything up and to my surprise the alignment was perfect. Nothing needed to be changed. So we took it off the ramps, very carefully, and I was on my way. No charge, was the best part! So I got home swapped front driver and rear tires and now there is no pull. Just a bad directional. This is the 6th J-body that I know of that has been lowered and an alignment was not needed. But I felt more comfortable having it checked. Usually if you shop around there will be a place that will be running a special or something for a free alignment check. Just thought that I would update, and thanks for all the replies....................

You're lucky. Seems like I look at my suspension the wrong way and it needs an alignment.

I installed my pro-kit/agx combo and all new mounts back in feburary, we did the install and alignment in about 2 1/2 hours at my cousins shop.

I still haven't gotten an alignment. I know I should but I want to add a set of sway bars and change out a few bushings first so I don't have to align the car a billion times. But I've put about 6K miles on so far after doing the springs and everything is fine. A little wear on the front but nothing major. They're old tires anyway.

For those who are planning things down the road... I use Firestone commonly for routine stuff. They offer a lifetime alignment for as long as you own the car for $140. I sat and quized the guy the last time I was there, he said if for any reason, including doing work on the car myself, the alignment is off they'll check/fix it free. Couldn't resist seeing how I said before, I look at it the wrong way and it starts pulling left or right. Other places may offer a similar deal.

Yeah Firestone's deal is hard to beat. Like 3 years of unlimited alignments and it transfers to one othe car if you switch.
