Need help with brakes from someone with an 03+
Wednesday, June 29, 2005 4:51 PM
I'm trying to install some 225mm drums off a 2003 on my 97. I can't remember how the hardware inside gets hooked up. If someone could pop a drum off and just take a picture I would really appreciate it.

thats why you do one side at a time one side to work on and one side for refrense... I work on cars for a living and I still do drums that way cause its so rare that I actually have to do them that I can never remeber where all the springs and @!#$ go

The 2003 setup is entirely different from my 1997 so I have no reference.

Btw, I took this picture a while ago. I was amazed with the anodized wheel cylinders.

They are bigger That is the point.

I have the backing plates, all hardware, and ebrake cables.

whoa, that is different.
Do you just need new hardware, backing plate, drum and shoes for this?

To tell you the truth, I think that the 03+ rear brakes are a downgrade. They use anchor pins instead of the servo type system.
The anchor pin system only applies from the wheel cylinder force.
Where as the servo type system (early style brakes) uses the cylinder force and then rotates and wedges against the drum and upper pin.

Out of the 4 fires I drive the 02 4dr brakes the best.

keep in mind if any of you plan on upgrading your brakes to a later models.. DO NOT GET AN 04 or late 03 MODEL!!! reason being is that the shoe facing the farthest part (closest to the rear bumper) has a arm that is rivited on. So when you go to buy your new shoes you have to spend another $50 just because the one shoe has to come with that arm attatched. late 03's that came with 04 parts like mine and 04's have this style. another problem is that some parts stores will not carry these shoes and then you will have to order them through GM which are listed at $145 i think. somewhere around there. just giving you a heads up
