Super old topic, I know and I'm sorry.
I did this about 3 years ago on my 02 Cavalier and it has been working perfectly. I even added a toggle switch in the ground wire to be able to turn them back on. At the time, it worked perfectly.
This evening I tried to turn the DRLs back on and the lights flashed a few times and the service light came on. If I flip the switch back to the position that allows a ground to the dark blue wire, it disables them again.
Point is, I have successfully disabled the DRLs and they have been for years; but what happened to make them not come back on??
Any ideas?

What you would need to do is follow the derections given. Then take the other half of the blue wire, run that to one of the poles on the switch and ground the other pole.
That should make it work ok. You just have to remember to turn the switch off every time you turn the car off.

Thanks, but as I said, this is what I did over 3 years ago. It has been working fine all along. I just noticed yesterday that when I flip the switch to allow the DRLs to come on, it started acting strangely.
Basically, I can't reactivate my DRLs now.
I am going to try putting it completely back to "stock" (meaning taking the ground wire off completely) and see if it helps. If not, I will try unplugging the battery.

Oh, I guess I misunderstood you.
Is it still grounded? If so check the relay.
Well, if the switch and its connections are still good, then the next thing is the DRL system itself... bad relay...? bad bulb...? only so many possibilities.
Sure, if you like looking a service light!
ill try that trick on 2000 cavy this weekend and let you know if it works.

If it's a 2k+ cavi or sunfire it should work.
Hell yeah it works... hundreds of people on here are living proof
The thing a lot of people don't realize is... the mods that work on a 95-99 electrical system probably won't work on a 00-05 electrical system.... you can blame the Class 2 wiring (and the body control module) that made everything in the car change.
i just did it wen i got to work and it works great thanks alot
if you have a sunfire just get a wiring hardness out of a 98 because that what I did to my 1996 and just went to a junkyard and got a headlight hardness out of a 98

well i hate to bring this back from the dead, but i want to make sure that i have the right wire before i start cutting things goin into the bcm. i also saw a lighter blue wire, but it was said "dark blue" so let me know. thanks
Looks like dark blue to me.
never had to do the drl thing, my day time running lights just stopped working, when i start the car, the little light flashes like 10 times, then just blinks.
i think ill try the cluster methode tomorrow. i hate lights being on in the cluster. had the theft system one on when i completely disabled the theft system. nice to have it that way. dont have to use modules to have remote start. but ill post some feedback tomorrow on wether this works or not
did it on my 03 cav yesterday and worked beautifully (on the 03 cav it is the darkes blue wire but it isnt really a very dark blue more like regular blue
woops, meant to copy and past this into a another forum with proper credit
I work on Wall Street, but didn't force you to take out a loan you couldn't afford.
i just put it in N and pull the Ebrake up but you have to be 10 and under in my fire or they wont go out its great for coming home late at night
ok disable DRL's with i hitch? i want to be able to turn them on again and off when i want to how should i start going about this?
You are probably going to have to do a little creative wiring... You will need a 2 way switch. One pin goes to ground, the other completes the circuit. That will only work if you are using the method mentioned above.
