Hey all i've recently noticed a creaking/ groaning sound coming from the front end of my car, i used to hear it mostly when i was going slow like over speed bumps etc but the other night i was at the gas station and was turning a corner at less than 5 mph and heard it again. at first i thought maybe power steering, but the wheel is fairly easy to turn i've noticed a whine on deceleration but i think that may be from the tranny or something. I haven't noticed any leaks under the car so not sure what to make of it .

over 100,000 check your struts that might be your creaking culprit, or wheel bearings
Front strut mounts would be my first guess.
sounds like maybe a wheel bearing the reason for my guees is cuz of the noise when deceleration but also sounds as if your struts are weak, does your car feel as if the suspension is soft or does your car sit lower that what it should.
Lower than it should not that i have noticed, i wouldn't have figured wheel bearings or struts would have caused a low on power steering fluid type whine on deceleration that's interesting. In either case is it an expensive repair and what are the ramifications if i wait besides possibly destroying my front end entirely. What about the cv boots are those known to go bad after 100,000 miles.
heh. i had that problem. Here's how i solved it:
1. Crash car into a pole where the problem occurs ( passenger side for me )
2. Insurance company fixes everything.
3. ???????
4. Profit!!!
I forgot what they replaced though

Sadly, no more..
If a cv joint is going out it usually starts to make a constant clicking noise only when turning and when you accelerated to hard from a stop than the noise goes away. If a wheel bearing is bad it tends to make different sounds at different times ie..( while going down the road it may sound like a low whirring noise, or even sound like a constant grinding noise) and if not fixed right away your wheel will lock up and may send you spinning in a world of youve never been so scared that you $#!+ yourself and crash into something like a guy that i know and he ended up replacing more than just the bearing (hub, tie rods, brake lines etc....) so see if you come up with some more info or symptoms that your car is having before replacing unnecessary parts.
Lilred thanks for the advice, i think i may at least have some of that stuff checked out ie struts wheel bearing etc and go from there if they turn out to be fine then i won't worry about it.
My swaybar D link bushings make that noise over speed bumps.
ohvrolla, is that right but you don't take the speed bumps really fast right. I mean you go like really slow or no i notice when i take the speed bumps i hear like a thud in the back end but maybe that's because it's really light back there lol.
mitdr774 has it right on the nose. The J's are famous for front strut mounts squaking. Jack the front of the car up so the tires just leave the ground (jack it up from the pinchweld or frame under the car, not the lower control arm) and take your favourite lube and squirt it into the tops of your front strut mounts, inbetween the metal and the rubber. When you jack the car up, a gap forms in the mount that you can get into with the lube. Do this until all the rust, etc comes out from the strut mounts. Squirt all the way around to make sure you get it all. Lower the car and see if the noise is still there. Start with that before you get too deep into wheel bearings, etc.
