How much juice do I need
Friday, February 16, 2007 1:05 AM
So i just raced an 03 Cobra and got my ass handed to me to the 100th degree. How much nos do I need to keep up with those things. I have a 98 2.2 sunfire. All i have is one of those chrome air thingys under my hood. Id appreciate any help

3 of the big ones.

J/k man, but seriously, I don't think nitrous is gonna cut it against a Cobra when you're starting out with a 2.2 ohv. It won't take enough nitrous to run faster, and you'd probably need well over a 100 shot, especially if you have an auto trans.

^^^what he said^^^

People say that what doesn't kill you in this life
will make you stronger. I'm not sure if that is true
or not, but i do know one thing-You have to learn from
it and it has to make you better.......it has to.......

ok first.... nah... that wont work.... maybe... ummm nope not that either... uhhh.... ok your screwed lol j/k.... but yea.... your definately shooting wayyyyy too high on who you wanna go after for winning.... fuel sluts are just that... fuel sluts... granted theres a bunch of people who have gotten some great numbers out of the OHV and surprised us all... but they also have a LOT of work done to it... emphasis on A LOT.... I'd say to steer away from the stangs for a bit.... or at least the Cobra ones... lol... you'll need well over 100 to be able to make em' nervous.... thats for sure.... =-x

yeah friggin 'stangs! My old boss has an '04 non-cobra with a bunch of mods and he ran a 13.3 at the track so i agree with all above,i'd concentrate on supporting mods for a nitrous setup, that way you could run a big shot with some reliability,my two cents,Goodday! I said Goodday!!

you just need a different motor and a different type of chrome air thingy under the hood.

hmm sounds like mikes car.....

stay away from stangs...particulary anything above GT untill your heavily modified......cobras alone are at like 370 ish if not more at the ground...

haahaha cobra vs OHV hah dude he probably ran you all the way in 6th gear he didnt bother going through all the gears... thats hilirious... i dont think any j-body has been close to a lightly modified 03-04 cobra.. stick with them ford escorts non gt's cause those have a lil kick to them.

if your wanting nitrous only go with a 55 shot or 65 other wise anything more u MUST retard the timing but still with nitrous u wont be able to keep up with a cobra its just a cavalier man haha

I raced a cobra once.... I didn't get my A$$ handed to me at all tho. I kept up with him pretty good, but he still beat me.

But i would have to say Nitrous isn't gonna do it for you... Stay away from them cobras they can be mean!!

I have a hard enough time keeping up with modded cobras in my vette, I would hate to try it in my cavalier!

cmon what kind of question is this anyway??? an 03' cobra runs what, a 12.9, and a 2.2 sunfire runs a mid/high 16. so to beat it youd need to take 4 seconds off. good luck doing that with "NOS". You probably couldn't get one run in using as much nitrous as it would take to run 12's. I agree with what somebody said, get a new car. If you wanna beat cobras, a cavalier isn't the best choice.

hmm, well...if your trying to beat a cobra, and you want to beat it with a cavalier, you better get rid of that 2.2 OHV. Get a cav with a 2.4, eco, 2.3, whatever, just not the OHV. Then once you have the engine issue handled, build the engine with a turbo spooling around ohhh...13 psi, somewhere around there, whatever. Then maybe you can run with him, not necessarily beat him, im not going to stick my neck out and say that, granted im sure theres some J's on this site that could beat a cobra. But to beat one with an 2.2 OHV, with im guessing a CAI, and even a 100 shot...not gunna happen. I mean, figure it out, a stock 2.2 puts out what, like 120 at the crank, thats what the claimed horsepower is anyways, that aint even at the wheels. With a 100 shot you'd only be around 200 hp, where as a cobra is at like 350, i dont care how light our cars our, 150 more hp is gunna make him move alot faster. Easiest solution, stay away from cobras, or buy a different car with more hp to start with. Just my two cents.

stock 390 ... 373 to the wheels .. my friends ... after exhuast, ported blower, chip, a nice 423 to the wheels.. all he needs is a pulley.. but a cavalier is not going to beat a good crobra .... power band is totally different .. cavy's should just stay racing mini vans and such ..

150 shot and even then, you're going to have your hands full

Blew it up, build numbers coming soon

Don't listen to these guys. All you need is the NOS sticker on your little chrome thingy. That's instant 150 hp.

ill tell you what you need...

you need a prayer.

my opinion is if you dont know what that chrome thingy is under your hood, you shouldnt be racing your car,and if you dont know what that chrome air thingy is your probably not racing at a track.

so go outside park your car someplace out of the way, get out, lock the doors, and throw your keys in a river/lake/pond... cause you dont deserve to drive

this is what u need to run with those cars your car must weigh 2600lbs with u in it or less, make 250whp or more and slicks . with this combo u should meet or beat most cobras specially if they are on street tires plus being a little crafty always helps let them do there burn out and stage than take for ever to stage that way their tires will cool down and they will do lots of spinning
