Fuel upgrade for 75 shot Dry?
Saturday, March 10, 2007 6:41 PM
I have ran Zex dry shot on my car a few summers now and was just thinking about upgrading my fuel somehow. Is this worth doing and what should I do to upgrade it like fuel injectors, fuel regulator? though about retarding my timing to but was told that this was not needed?

well if you really want to run a dry shot. bigger injectors would be nice. maybe even a feul pump. timing retard is a good idea. HPtuners can do that

If you're running a dry shot (which should up fuel pressure when you hit the button) there's really nothing you need to do besides routine maintenance. A better/newer pump is always a good idea, but if you go to big with your injectors, you won't be able to control them. I honestly wouldn't touch a thing as long as you're not leaning out on the spray. Converting to a wet kit isn't that hard if you're really concerned about fuel, though.

Care to elaborate as to why not? Dry shots are perfectly safe and I'm tired of hearing people on here "preaching" about wet being the "only" way to go.

Man I dont know about you guys...but im making my own kit. Im not shelling out money for a brand name, so all i am going to do is wire it all up myself and i already know what to do to rich'in the engine

people preach wet because its more idiot proof. not everyone is smart enough to upgrade their fuel in prep for nitrous. a wet takes care of that lack of prep, thats all.

My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again

I agree with Agent Omega, everyone else is this post doesn't know enough to be answering other peoples questions.

Hows your A/F ratio now? If you're running on the lean side as it is now I may worry. However, just slapping bigger injectors in could be worse off in the long run. If you went too big with out anything else you could cause the injectors not to work as well. Instead of spraying a nice atomized spray like they should they will begin to drip.

We dont know the whole story here either. If you are running good i'd do a good check over the car. Fuel filter etc.. and up the 75shot. You should have an A/F ratio gauge. If not then I wouldn't even think about upping the shot until you had that. Once you run the 75shot if you are leaning out I would look into a small upgrade. Maybe slightly larger injectors and a little better pump. A pump from a 4.3L would be sufficient. Or maybe even just a stock replacement. Yours may not be working out like it should.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a dry shot. In fact most of the F-body and vette guys are recommending it over the wet kits. Wet kits are too idiot proof. Making people feel too safe and aren't taking the proper precautions and messing up more than the dry shots.

well, if you are running dry I do hear that the zex is the best way to go, especially with their active fuel management

ZEX Nitrous Systems have an advanced, patented feature called "Active Fuel Control". This feature monitors nitrous bottle pressure and adds or subtracts enrichment fuel. The engine never runs too rich or too lean when engaging the nitrous system.

I went with NOS and don't have that, so I didn't trust to have my ONE AND ONLY car run a dry shot, I thought it too risky for my ONE AND ONLY car.

Personal preference?

I would also say that a nitrous kit isn't something that should be put on without some sort of supporting mods. Window, fuel pressure monitor, colder plugs, timing retard. Its all in the support to me.

But that's the thing, though...you don't need to prep a thing to use a dry shot. Technically, NOS states you could run a 60 shot on a stock 2200 all day long. Sure, plugs and 93 is the way to go for extra saftey. But most dry kits incorporate a method of boosting fuel pressure way up while spraying. You're actually over-compensating on fuel (probably) but you're still far into that safe zone. With a wet kit, there's almost more room for failure if you mix up the pills, choose the wrong jets in the first place... I dunno, it just frustrates me sometimes! Lol

The room for error is the fact that our intake manifolds are not designed to flow fuel, using a wet kit can result in fuel puddling in the intake manifold and backfires blowing it to peices.
