Will running MSD coil packs(hotter spark) and an NX wet kit with 2 stage colder plugs(as I should) cause any damage (i.e. detonation)

if you're worried about detonation (which shouldn't be a problem til you get into the large amounts of n2o) you should look into a programmable msd that will allow you to retard the timing a few degrees... (which i believe is part #6211)

beyond that, running nitrous on any engine is stressful..... it's just a matter of how knowledgable you are and making sure it's tuned correctly

not really planning on running more than a 35 shot daily 50 shot on occasions and a 75 on very rare occasions. But I was thinking about this at work and said I might want hotter spark to burn the mixture more thoroughly. And as you said about the plugs in Ryan's a platinum plug acts like a glow plug which= no good, but if I run say copper than a hotter spark would be good to burn the mixture.

a plug's heat range really doesn't have much to with how hot the spark gets

the only way to achieve "hotter" spark would be to upgrade ignition to something like an msd setup

just stick with the ngk tr6 #4177, you'll be fine

and...

the reason you want a colder plug is because when nitrous is introduced to the chamber, things get hot real quick

so the faster you can get rid of the heat the better, but this is also within reason

and most have come up with the happy medium with the ngk's

Hotter spark (higher voltage) is perfect for a N20 motor. It takes more voltage to create a spark as the cylinder pressures rise, so stock ignition systems eventually max out. The important thing (as meltdown said) is go with a cooler plug to get the heat out quicker.

Is that the part number for NGK's on Cavy's? Cause when I was looking for them on a corolla all I could find at Adanced Autoparts is stock NGK's but the tr6 is a colder plug if i'm correct. So on the listing on their computer would it just say NGK TR6 Copper blah blah blah?

yeah, the plugs themselves aren't SPECIFICALLY made for cav's but people know that they work, and work well

i wouldn't know where to start with a toyota sorry... but the same principles still apply, maybe more or less drastic considering the application....

Tr55 is stock, so a step colder would be tr6

So should I even bother getting the coil packs. I'm asking cuz some guy I know at work wrecked his cavy a while back and said he pulled them off. That and he wants like $50 for both.

if they're stock... then no (duh)

and i'm honestly unsure of how much an upgraded ignition on the 2.2's would run, so i couldn't tell you what's a good deal... sorry

They're MSD brand coil packs that fit in the stock location. I looked them up on highrev.
