Ok I just got my Alpine Head Unit and speakers installed, and now I need an amp to push the speakers more. I have Alpine Type R 6x9" coaxials in back and Type R 5.25" coaxials in front. How many watts would I need from an amp to push the speakers more. The 6x9's can take 55W RMS and a peak of 275W. The 5.25's can take 35W RMS and a peak of 140W. I don't really know much about electronics so I have no idea as to how many watts the amp should have. I'd like to go with either JL Audio or Alpine. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Now you can't tell me that no one can give me some info on this. I gave everyone more than enough info on what I need. I just want to know what size amp I should get to push my speakers. Any suggestions would help a lot. Thanks
Get a 4-channel amp that puts out about 40 watts a channel at 4 ohm. Something like the Alpine MRP-F240.
you need a little bigger amp than that
the rms rating is the lowest power it needs and of course the 275 is the most
what most ppl dont know is that not enough power is just as bad as too much power
myself i would go 4x 100 with a crossover so you 5.25 dont distort
def get a 4 channel at just match the RMS with the amp.... it's better to go a little higher than going a little lower..... you dont' want to under power your amp... it's worse than over power it, some say...
"Silver 2001 Cavalier z24 5 speed 2 door sunroof and power everything "
AEM Short Ram Intake
B&M Short Throw Shifter
Soooo are there any examples of good amps that would fit your descriptions??? Sorry, I just don't want to find an amp that I think is good, cuz it'll prolly be completely wrong.
Underpowering your speakers
DOES NOT I REPEAT DOES NOT do any damage to your speakers. This has been discussed many times. If underpowering your speakers did damage to them, then any one who as ever bought aftermarket speakers and not amped them would blow them up all the time.
It is when people underpower speakers and think that turning up the gain on their amp makes em sound louder or magically get more power is when speakers blow.
GAIN IS NOT THE SAME AS VOLUME!!! Search this subject it's very popular here..
also... forget about those peak ratings, they are useless. as Joe said, just match the RMS ratings of your speakers to an amp. peak power means nothing, RMS is the continuous power you are putting to your speakers.
and if you set your gains right, your speakers will not distort. as said by Cody the gain isn't a volume control, it's made to match up to the voltage of your preamp outputs. set this too high and that's when your amp starts clipping and sending square waves to your speakers.
