well, im getting the noise...
just thought i would ask if and how some people eliminated the noise of the car running through your speakers after amping the fronts.
i had this in my last cavalier, but the swap wasnt perminant and it is now in its new vessel.
my boss said he got rid of it by playing with the wiring of the headunit, but cant remember what he did exactly. he cant remember if he grounded the deck straight to the chasis or upgraded the 12v constant or the switched.
just thought i would post up and ask if and how some one else fixed this problem.
thanks.

did you put the rca's on the opposite side as the power wire?

yes. the power wire is running down the left side of the car and the rcas down the right

its problly a ground loop i had the same problem with my speakers i went to walmart and bought a ground loop isalator its about $30.00 it should slove your problem

i know the isolator should do the trick, but i wanted to fix the problem, not treat the symptoms. was kind of looking for a different solution.

You've got to be kidding, right? If the power wire was touching metal, it would be shorting and sparking. Having the power wire close to metal has nothing to do with anything. You should have just told him to lick the power wire, would have been a better answer.
If anything, check your ground for your amps. Make sure it's clean, and try grounding your head unit ground to a clean chassis point.

glad to see someone wanting to fix the problem instead of slapping on a band-aid.
check your grounds. try some diffrent locations for amp and headunit, make sure the paint is scraped away and your touching bare metal. also check the ground from the battery to the frame of the car to make sure its good. what are you running, a headunit and amp? if so hook a speaker up to your headunits power. see if the whine is coming in thru that. if its not its most likely the amp. if the noise does come thru you know its the headunit.

i cant remember if i was getting it through the deck before i amped up. i know that my boss said he had the same problem with his cavaliers and sunfire when he amped the fronts, he said he rearranged a wire in the decks harness and that fixed it. problem is, he cant remember if it was the ground or +12v.
thanks for the tips though guys.

ya i have a feeling it is a ground issue. right now its kind of a temp install. winter came before i could do antyhing permanent.
things i still need to do that will help the problem are:
- shorten ground wire from amp.
- upgrade with a new ground from chasis to neg term on battery.
- permanently mount amp and eq in trunk.

you dont necessarily need to shorten the ground just more of making sure it is a good connection. Make sure you solder you connections, make sure you use a good ground spot and not an existing factory spot such as the seat belt bolt etc. also just make sure that the paint is scrapped off where you intend to put the bolt. please dont use self tapping screws, do it right by using a bolt and secure it by putting an impact to it.
