Hey everyone,
here is the situation. I have an '02 sunfire 2 door with stock everything in the audio department. A friend of mine has just changed cars and is giving me some items he had in his old car. They include new 6x9's and a kenwood bass cannon. Anyway its all great for what i need and am in the process of getting some 4x6's. I have looked at the information out there and mostly understand what i need but just wanted to ask:
1) when trying to get the rear deck lid off and they say to just start pulling and all that, what about the child seat hooks? No one ever said anything about taking them out and i cant see the rear lid coming off with them in place.
2) i will need to splice into the existing speaker connectors in order to connect my new speakers correct? They wont just plug and play. Speakers are Sony's.
3) the bass and amp is all self contained... i am not expecting too much gain in this department but better than what i started with. With this i have to tap into the rear speaker lines to get my input as the stock deck doesn't have rca's. Is this a hassle or is there anything to watch out for?
I want to be able to take this stuff out when i sell the car and don't want to get too involved with it as its a work/dd car anyway. Any and all help is very much appreciated.
Thanks
Fold down your back seat, and pull the round things out on the sides, pull the side pannels out a little, and start removing all the clips and what-not. Nothing bolts or is screwed in, ans the child safety seats arn't connected to the part your removing. You may need to remove the insulation or modify the mount rings a little for the speakers to fit.
You can buy speaker wire adapters for your car at Circuit City pretty cheap so you dont have to cut up the stock connectors.
As far as the bass-tube, you have the idea right but you don't have much stock wire to play with. I generally don't reccomend doing things that way, but you can get these blue colored "taps" in the wiring department of most local stores to tap into the wires without cutting them, just tap them into the speaker side of the wiring instead of the stock wiring so you can convert back to stock like your saying, or just replace the adapters if all you do is remove the bass tube.
