Correct parts needed for head unit install?
Tuesday, September 16, 2008 8:35 PM
I've been searching the forums to find out the part numbers I need for a 2005 Cav headunit install.

So far, I've found:

Wiring Harness
Metra 70-2003
Metra 80-2003?
Scosche GM-05

Dash Kit
Metra 99-3301
Scosche GM1583

Metra 40-GM21 (antenna adapter)

Will these part numbers work on my '05 Cavalier? I really don't care about keeping the chimes, so I just need a harness and dash kit that will work. Any ideas? Thanks.

the kit is metra 99-2003 and the harness is metra 99-2002 or metra 99-2003.. both of those will work just check the speakers. The harness i used the front speakers were really my rear and my rears really my front. The polarity is correct but not the location of the speakers....GL!

Not sure what ^ is talking about, but neither 99-2002 or 99-2003 are harnesses. What I THINK he meant to say was use 99-2003 for the mounting kit, and use 70-2002 or 70-2003 for the harness.

I found Scosche GMT2049 dash kit for about $10 at Wal-Mart today, but I'm having trouble finding the right harness. None of the auto part stores in town even stock it. AutoZone said they could order it, and I've have it in about a day. Anyone know if BestBuy would have a compatible harness?

Where's quicklilcav's sig when we need it? Use a Metra 99-3301 for a 00-05 Cavalier install kit. It is double din and doesn't require the stereo cage or face surround that your head unit came with.

If it can't drag, it ain't low enough!

I second this, as it is what I'm using.

Where did you find the Metra 99-3301 kit? It looks like I'll end up having to buy it online in order to get it. Also, is there a problem with the Scosche GMT2049 that I bought? Something that will give me headaches, or ?

I ended up finding a compatible harness by Metra at AutoZone. It was a different Metra part #, but it cross-referenced to Metra 70-2003. I also ended up using the Scosche GMT2049 kit. Everything worked out just fine. However, I do have one question. When I turn the ignition off and open the door, my head unit stays on, whereas the factory head unit turned off when the door opened. Is there a specific fuse I can tap into that will give me back this "auto-off" function?
