01 Sunfire GT rear speakers
Tuesday, April 21, 2009 8:24 PM
According to Jbody's sticky thread, I should have 6x9" speakers in the rear, however, I've been to several car audio websites and they stated that 6x8" and 6x3/4".
Which aftermarket rear speaker size would fit my 2001 sunfire gt?

Thank you.

6x9 is a common aftermarket speaker size and it will fit your car like that stock one does, as the stock one is a 6x9 aswell.

I should also mention that the car is equipped with a Monsoon stereo system - many car audio websites state that I cannot install certain 6x9 speakers because of the Monsoon system. Is this true? or will any 6x9 work?

Doesn't matter about the monsoon, all they do is send a signal to the tweeter and a separate signal to the woofer. Just about any 6x9 will work, however, you might have to do a little fabricating depending on the 6x9. You may have to mount it from the bottom or alter the plastic bezel the 6x9 sits in. Check Lenko's and my stickies for info on how to wire it up.

Thanks

I just finished my eco swap and the class 2 wiring is new to me. I have 6X9 polk audio mmc690 and they came with the crossover but im wondering if I can wire them up using the tweeter, woofer sets or would i be better off using the woofer sets and the crossover for the speakers?

Bump!
I'm getting horrible feedback whether i wire them up trying to separate the mids/highs and woofer or if I try to power them off the woofer and use the crossover. btw being a cavi my tweeters are diff colors but it always been different from the suns on all the wiring. Any suggestions and/or input would be of great help.

You could also do what I did and hook up a pair of 6x9's to the woofer wires and a pair of 5'1/2's to the tweeter wires and have 4 speakers in the rear deck
