i did my big 3 ground upgrade and after this .. my batt just die .. dont think is because my alt is not charging becuse if i use another batt the car starts fine and once i take the batt out the car stays on .. also i noticed a rare smell like burned cable every time i start my engine .. smells for a while then disappears.
what could this be ..?
this is what i did .
alt to inline fuse then to positive of batt right?
chassis to - batt right ?
then instead the alt bolt i used one of the starter bolts to do the engine to chassis ground .
definitely i need to get a new batt , im thinking on getting a yellow top optima but first i would like to know if i did anything wrong ..
any help please , appreciated ..
regards

how big is your alt->batt fuse?

the biggest i could get from an electronic store was for 60 amps .. should i get a higher one ? is that the reason why it smells like that .. ? because ive checked the fuse tho and its fine ..
thanks

Ive been using a 60 amp for months and no issues. Did you run the wires too close to the manifold? May have burned the insulation off.

the wire that comes from the alt goes from the alt to the front of chassis bordering it till it gets to the batt as some of you guys do ... .. whats the insulation or where is that .. sorry my ignorance . thanks any explanation why my batt died just like that after my big 3 installation .. ?
thanks

I mean the rubber stuff on the wire. Thats the insulation.
Can you get pics?

ohh ok thanks .. emm .. not today .. i can post them tomorrow .. so i guess till tomorrow . then .. thanks for now

Check continutity through the fuse, and check with a positive lead from your DMM to the alt + post and a - to the engine block. See where the problem is. It could be the battery, could be something else.
