help my audio shopping

Okay guys/girls im just starting shopping for an entire audio system for the J-body "cough cough trailblazer" i just picked up. so I wanted to see what you guys can come up with as far as a system goes. i havnt looked at the new stuff out there so im curious what you guys could come up for me to look into. i'll set the price of the piece and some simple parameters to meet. the rest is up to you.

Headunit price $500 max
2-3 rca outputs 3 volt minimum. aux. imput (1 for video audio in and one for ipod.) high sound quality. can be a video screen unit or a standard cd player single din type. remote

Componet set price $500 max
high sound quality 6.5" componet set. bi-ampable crossover a plus. power around 150+/- watts rms

Subwoofer price $250 max

small sealed box application. thinking possibly a single 15" sound quality sub here.

amplifier max price $500

i'd like to stick with a 5 channel amp. something in the 60x4 + 500x1 (2 ohm)(or more) this way im just running one amp. i could possibly be talked into going with a 2 amp setup but they have to be small, within the price range and not suck up allot of power.

that leaves me $250 for wiring and materials.

lets see what you guys can come up with.

I love my Alpine for the head unit. The iPod interface is amazing. Idk is Crutchfield still sells the package deal with the cable or not but I picked mine up for $269.

I love my Rainbows too.

Everything else. Youre on your own.

The american dollars garbage value is most likely going to mean a hike in rainbow prices on 2011 models, so a little insider may have told me lol. If u want me to get a killer deal on some high end rainbows in that 400-500 range, now is the time.

Alpine has allllways been my head unit of choice in average man price ranges, but it would depend on features u want.

Jason, I say stick to I'd for ur subs man. And for 500 I should be able to score u a rainbow 4.300 and dm2000. They don't make a 5 ch tho, so no help there, but ill ask him what other high quality companies do.

Zapco makes 5 channels ya?

I wont be able to do any purchasing until spring. ive been told no buying on the trailblazer till the sunfire is back together. and i got about a grand or so i still need to put into the sunfire to finish it up.

ive started looking at the rainbow stuff but without knowing the prices i wasnt sure of what line i should be looking at lol. it will be a slow search. i'll have to check retail prices to find out what i should look at and get back to the site

it seems most companies (not all) have a single 5 channel amp. i wanted to keep things as simple as i can on this build while still having a high quality sound. zapco i think will put me over the $500 mark. image dynamics.

i thought maybe pioneer for headunits but after actually playing with those new wobbly nobs they have now. i dont think i'd want that. unless it had a remote so i didnt have to use that button much.

For front components, although you might have to bust past your limit, I'd look into the Hybrid Audio Legatia series.
http://www.hybrid-audio.com/legatia_two_way.htm

They're leading the SQ curve right now, as far as competitions go.

If I remember right, in ur price range, look at the specs of the power line comps from rainbow. Also, the ipaul amps I mentioned have pretty small footprints, so that might be a good 2-amp option. I put the bug in his ear, and we are going through everything he has as far as brands. I might be able to hook you up with a great package deal on some high end stuff all from one authorized dealer.

sa-15s are about 240$ shipped.... or sa-12s are around 190 shipped, these subwoofers do sound amazing.

sq review

there is a thread some where on caco or ssa that has some body winning a state championship in sq with the sa series subwoofers... cant find it tho. unfortunately the sundown amps are huge and just not really in your budget. but the subwoofers are.

You know who you're talking to Andrey? lol. I doubt Jason doesn't know about JL and RF On top of that, I doubt "bumping" is his goal... I know it's not actually.

HAT was the first site i looked at as far as componets but yeah there just out of my price range. and im not going to compete with this truck, its just my daily driver so im trying to keep the costs under control for this build. i mean ive had the truck for 7 days now and ive allready tinted the windows. today its at the shop having a 10.2" flipdown lcd installed with a built in ps2 for my son. and next week it goes in for an alarm with remote start. ive budgeted 2 grand for the audio setup. 3 grand to redo the entire interior, 2 grand for a mild drop and new wheels and then a couple grand for possibly some paintwork.

nothing against JL or rockford i actually looked at both of them process wise (cleansweep from JL and the 360.2 from Rockford) but as far as amps and speakers go there just kinda run of the mill average stuff.

JL i'll try and get back thru the rainbow stuff here as soon as i have a chance. this week is just hectic as hell. though if he's dealing zappco i know they had a nice 5 channel i saw. may have to look into that closer. ive always loved there amps. the rainbow i.paul amps look nice as well.

he said right now the 6 channel from Zapco is about it, and it's huge and half your budget in itself lol. Also said if you were buying soon, he might be able to get you into a set of Micro-Precisions, another amazing company from Germany. Rainbow only offers bi-amping capabilities in the SLC/SAC's(which sound amazing, and come in a bit under $300), and Germaniums which I THINK are a hair over your budget. I HIGHLY Recommend SLC/SAC's. That's actually what I'm about to order for my MR2.

I can attest to the quality, fit and finish, and small footprint of those iPaul amps as well. I love them.

He also said, as far as a head unit he carries that has everything you might be looking for, the Kenwood Excelon 994. iPod, Aux, Bluetooth all included. And I hear the iPod controls are awesome on it. Here's a lilnk http://www.crutchfield.com/S-RiTwXJmNqPN/s_113KDCX994/Kenwood-Excelon-KDC-X994.html

If Micro-Precision is a brand you want to try out, it's time sensitive on him being able to get a set of their speakers in your price range. I'm assuming limited 2010 stock left at a reasonable price. They aren't cheap lol.

Still dont understand why the 1000D was discontinued. Ive got around $500 in my two amps. It just seems like hes making an "entry-level" line instead of just making lower power high quality amps. The Ik is versatile but I couldnt imagine finding a non-SPL use for the 1500D especially at the price his amps are going for these days.

to add to that as well. state championships really arn't that big. even someone winning world finals isn't that big. now a company like HAT that had more of there cars win world finals then any other product. that is something to look at.

there is a smaller amp in the works, but it is on the back burner, as there really isnt much demand for the lower wattage amps.

Becauser sundown's main customer base is spl meatheads who only want huge amps to push huge subs.

Ok jason, got some info. Rainbow germaniums fall into ur price range so long as he has 2010s in stock. All foreign speakers are looking to take a little price bump in the us for 2010 from what I see, all german anyway.

But. The big news(very time sensitive for u or anyone else who might want in on this) is the micro-precision 3.16s(3.16 with the 5 seriese tweeter upgrade), he has one set left, and from what I hear it might be the only set left for the model year at all in the us. For a bit over 400 shipped. If u(or anyone) want to get into some kick ass high end german speakers, that's one of the best deals I see going right now.

For rainbow, the slc/sac comps will knock ur speaker budget down 200 bucks, and going with the almighty germaniums will max ur speaker budget.

I still HIGHLY recommend the ipaul amp combo for price/performance/size/features.

Which is stupid irritating. I love their amps but Ive pretty much decided that my next amp purchase wont be through Sundown. I want the same build quality at a lower wattage. Not a lower powered amp with lower quality production. <= SAE series.

Anyways Ill stop thread jacking.

Alpine makes some nice double din video style head units. If I ever get my dads TB thats the route Im going to go since the factory radio is double din and it looks so much nice to have a radio that fills out the hole rather than sitting in a mounting kit.

Thanks JL but i can't purchase at least till spring. at least now i know what price range i should be looking at. i figured the zapco would still be outta my price range. might justify it if i was planning on competing with this one.

Confirmed that those MP's are THE last set available retail in north, central, and south america lol. So, if there's another set out there for sale, it's used

It sucks you gotta put this off till spring. Talking about all this and checking prices has me itching to upgrade. I REALLY want to snag those MP's, but it's looking like SAC's for me.

dude you have no idea how much i wanna tear into this thing lol. but sunfire has to come first. and just dropping about 3 grand allready for down payment and the overhead screen/ps2 and alarm and tint, and alarm and christmas which i always go overboard on the wife. i gotta take care of some bills and then get the sunfire back together and out of the way so i can bring the tb into the garage to tear into.

it somehow seems i always get the itch to work on cars/ upgrade when its butt ass cold outside lol.
