What impedance are the coils on the Type Rs? Link to the exact model of subs you have would be nice. Hard to give amp advice without that info because we gotta know the final ohms load so you can get the most efficient and quality amp in your budget, not one that can't provide the right power at the load needed.

As for that amp specifically, MBQ has always made half decent products, but remember they have been bought out by Maxxsonix, so their quality could be dwindling. That amp, from just the picture looks like one of those plastic framed Hifonics amps, and to be claiming 1000 watts for $179 is a bit skeptical too, so it makes me wonder if that isn't the same board/chassis as one of those inefficient, ugly, cheaply tossed together Hifonics amps with the MBQ color/name.

here is another amp im looking into http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_17526_Power-Acoustik-OVN1-2000D.html i have heard good things from power acoustik

with that being said it is iffy with the price where it is, as you said.

here is a link to the subs http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_4045_Alpine-SWR-1042D-TYPE-R.html

You heard wrong.

As for your subs and amping them:
dual 4, so you can get down to 1 ohm with 2 of those. makes finding an amp easy/cheap.

Of those 2, I would go the MBQ route, but I wouldn't chose either one because you do get what you pay for in electronics and Power Acoustics and anything Maxxsonix isn't really going to be top quality....

What kind of budget are you looking to set with this amp purchase?

I can see what I can currently sell a Rainbow DM2000 for. It will be between $450 and $500 though.

Other brands that should have something you want in the $300-500 range would be Audison, DLS, and for the extreme budget Soundstream has always had half decent stuff for reasonable prices. I'm not saying the PA or MBQ amps don't work... I'm just skeptical on how efficient on your electrical system they will be, and how high the quality of parts can really be at those price points and knowing Maxx and PA as being cheap low end brands.

does hifonics make good products? if so i may get this http://www.woofersetc.com/p-8687-hfi2000d-hifonics-monoblock-2000-watt-hfi-series-amplifier.aspx
if they dont i will probably get this http://www.alpine-usa.com/product/view/mrp-m1000
and i saw some soundtream amps as well, im just going to be 100% sure im not waiting my cash when i buy an amp lol, wanna get the best one for these subs

Like I said, Maxxsonix(which is the parent company of Hifonics) is notorious for power hungry, overrated amps. And their cases and controls are plastic in a lot of cases. They're just crap. So if getting the best you can is key, they aren't what I would recommend. You see the end caps and mounting tabs and control knobs on the one you linked? All plastic.. Their internal parts quality will follow suit.

The other issue is that with a pair of dual 4 ohm subs, you aren't going to be able to fully get the most power out of the Alpine as you can't wire those subs to 2 ohms. You can get a final load of either 4 or 1.

Like I said, I would look into brands like Rainbow, Audison and DLS if you can afford them. I can go ahead and see what I can sell a Rainbow DM2000 for, and if it's too much the Audison LRX1.400 should be a tad less, DLS is hit or miss with communication and customer service so I try not to recommend them a whole hell of a lot. They make great products, but it's a paint to talk to them.

okay, well if i go with maxxsonix then ill probably get the hifonics... but im gonna look further into the audison
last question about other amps, just wanna shoot for all the possibilities, does kenwood make good amps? i have a friend who works at best buy who can get me a deal like around 60-70% off and i saw this : http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Kenwood+-+1800W+Class+D+Mono+Amplifier+with+Low-Pass+Crossover/9763288.p?id=1218169466067&skuId=9763288

Even at employee pricing, he's blowing smoke up your ass if he says he gets 60-70% off lol. I don't personally have a lot of experience with newer Kenwoods, so I couldn't tell you. I know they used to make absolute junk but as much as their Excelon head units have some around, who knows.

And as for the Rainbow DM2000 I mentioned, $498 shipped.

for 498 you can get a brand new rockford fosgate t1500-1bdcp that pushes out close to 2000 watts rms

Different animal all together. It's like getting a Corvette or a Ferrari. Rainbow is a high end SQ brand.

MB quart isnt so bad...for a budget amplifier.....the best line from hifonics (maxxsonics - autotek, hifonics, crunch and MB quart are brands under them) was the XX series, they were rated at 12.6V as opposed to the newer lines being rated at 14.6V....If it were me, i would defiantly choose mb quart over boss, or power acoustik, no doubt. But, dont expect it to be a awesome amplifier...efficiency isnt all that great as opposed to other amplifiers, but for the price, you cant beat it really as far as budget amplifiers...my friend just bought 2 of the new 1200 watt RMS brutus amplifiers in the new series, and they arent bad...not as good as the older stuff, you can tell the quality is still slipping a bit, but on a budget, cant be beat IMO

Try looking into one of these http://www.caraudiodeals.com/audiopipe-ap18001d-p-2812.html, very solid amps. Underrated and I've seen them run at .5 daily with no issues. Would be perfect for those type R's

are you s ure? that looks like a questionable amp, i mean for $180? doesnt seem right

The audiopipe amplifiers will do rated power, only thing that ive never liked is well...its audiopipe....yes they do rated power, but, as for me anyway i question weather quality components are used, as well as the THD is pretty high compared to industry standard on them...dont remember on efficiency, but, im going to guess their power hungry amplifiers...

You get what you pay for. That kind of power at that price is going to be dirty, inefficient and who knows what no name china made parts its put together with.

I know many people up north of me that love these amps. Ive used audiopipe equipment before, currently use it, and would use it again. People can talk all the trash they like, but the equipment is some of the best for the money youll spend on it.

depends on what your definition of best is. i knew people that would rave about audiobahn. i remember kids telling me pyle and jenson was the best stuf out there.

"best for the money" also doesn't translate to "awesome". It means on a budget of beans, it's the best you can get. The problem is beans don't get you high quality

He is also clearly on a budget, I'm reccomending an amp that will give him unclipped, more than rated power, at an affordable price. Does doing more than rated not say a thing or 2 about quality?
Re: looking at amps
Tuesday, June 28, 2011 4:34 AM
no, doing more then power means it does more then power. it doesnt nessicarily mean its quality.

I built this racecar once that put out more power than anyone thought it could, but I used cheap parts. But it had to be rebuilt after 2 runs at the track. But hey, it did more than rated power so that equals quality and reliability, right?

You get my drift?
