Alarm in base Cavalier?
Tuesday, December 31, 2013 10:30 AM
Apparently the search function hates me. But is it possible to install some type of alarm in a base Cavalier? I go to a school that's in a very shady neighborhood....and just don't want my new radio ripped out along with the radar detector. Any suggestions?

Any Alarm should work, I'd look into something 2way or with smart phone capabilities if money allows. There is lots of times, alarms go off and people don't even look cause they thinks its a false alarm. with a 2way, your alarm will page your key fob. Then you can go check it out.

I don't have a key FOB, everything's manual on my car. So are you saying it's possible to activate the alarm by using the FOB when I get out of the car? Just want a peace of mind since she sits outside of my house too.

Are you taking about factory anti-theft system? I was taking about buying an aftermarket system. I like this system the best, astrostart Not a fan of some of the lcd screen ones. We get these installed on alot of work trucks, you can also get a smartphone adapter for them to use your phone to start and turn alarm on and off... If you have manual locks, you have to lock doors, arm the car, then when you go back unarm car, unlock door. you could look into aftermarket door locks too. $25-50 maybe for 2 doors if you do it yourself. The aftermarket alarms, I dont know much for the install side as I have a guy that does all my installs, I have just used alot of different systems. I just have a cheap starter in my car, no alarm.... I had my factory anti-theft system disabled too, many times before my aftermarket starter, I used my key fob to unlock the doors and the factory alarm starts going off for no reason. But I park in a garage and 99% of the time, just use my car to go to work so no alarm really needed.

So what would activate the alarm? Is there special sensors you have to install in doors or?

The alarm guys tie wires in under the dash, I believe they hook it up to the factory door tiggers. With the aftermarket remote, you arm your car and if someone smashes window and open the door, or if you have windows down in summer and they reach in unlock and open door, it triggers the alarm. Some guys have installed their own alarms before but most just pay a shop to do it, there is alot of wiring to do, so I just leave it to someone else. I just got a car starter/keyless entry/trunk installed, no alarm it my alarm guy charged me $100 for parts and labour so I couldn't turn it down.... we give him lots of work so for him to do cheap work on personal vehicles is nothing for him.... But call up local car starter/alarm place.... should be $500 or so Id say????

I just installed 3 viper 5704s last week. I always use directed electronics. They have a ton of addons too. You can install glass break sensors, shock sensors, door handle sensors, a ton of things. They also have regular key fobs, 2 way LCD, led, oled, smart phone adapters. There is so much. Not two hard to install if you can read and understand wiring.
