Opinions on the New JL Lineup
Friday, February 18, 2005 3:22 PM
Well i went in to our local Stereo West today and was asking ron about an amp to push a sub i was looking at. Well i noticed the new JLs and had him turn them on for me because i was curious. I loved the way they sounded. Im thinking about picking up 2 13.5" JLs from my next paycheck? Anybody have any opinions?

Its the newer W1V2s, They come in 10", 12", and 13.5". They are a grayish color now and they sound sweet in my opinion. They don't seem to be as power hungry as the older stlyes. The 13.5" Woofers are 200 watts RMS and the 12" and 10" are 150 watts RMS. However they do like the air, 1.5 - 2 cu feet per woofer.

I will be getting a few thursday with the new e2800D amplifier (roughly 240x2@4ohm (12.5volts).

What you mean by that Mike? Is that a good thing or bad thing? Well ive decided on just one 13.5" in a bigger ported box tuned to i believe 26hz or 28hz.

It depends. I agree they make good stuff, it is WAY overpriced for me. So many different subs I would rather buy then pay the money for the name.

Nothing against the performance of the subs, well, except the W7, just don't like the way it sounds. But the subs do perform, just not worth the money to me.

$179.99 for the 13.5"
$159.99 for the 12"
$144.99 for the 10"

I don't think its that bad of a price for the woofer. I would rather buy it for the name knowing that if it does break its going to be fixed rather than buying a no name woofer for a cheaper price... Just me.

I have never been disapointed with JL at all in any of my experiences... i think im gunna have to try out one of those 12s tomorrow...

In my opinion they sounded sweet for such little power running through them.

Wow, ouch, not worth it to me. But like I said, that's my opinion.

Steve, just because it's no name to you, doesn't mean it's no name.

so its jl entry level sub less power than than last year
just get a w3 for $25 more and u can rock a jl sub with 200 watt amp
and still sounds like u got a ape in the trunk tryin to escape
Re: Opinions on the New JL Lineup

exactly, but the new w3 is actually going to need I think 25-50 more watts than the v2 that I have, and I have about 250 watts going to mine. But its true I would go for a w3 instead of that.

When does the new w3 Come out?

Well ihad my days of loud ass woofers. Two L5s in a ported box tuned to like 28hz was way loud enough for me. As of now im looking only for something with Sound Quality.. I had infinity Kappa Perfects, but they were stolen from work.

so your looking for great sound quality from an entry level sub? guess it depends on your definition of "good" sq.

Not that many of you would care, but i ended up with 2 10" JL audio W3v2s in a poweredge box.

For quality diamond audio m6 sub sounds like a w7 with the price of a w3
for insides I love alpine /but eclipes and diamond audio make inside
speakers that sounds like focal/bostons for a reasonable price
but then again audio is like motors u can only go so far as quality its not what u buy
its more on who u set it up like I heard some kenwoods that hits harder than my w3's
and mid/highs where off the chain twinkled like wind chimes and I have alpines inside suetup with a 4ch/2ch eclipse amp he just did one thing i never really did dynamat the rear deck top/bottom and did the whole door in it too hell I'm just waitin till summer so
I can do mine
OH.... one more thing volts of the radio make a huge diff too like most is 4/5 mines
a 8volt preout check out eclipse new radio line gps/eq/xovers / I got mine saturday there is not a better radio for the price $450 for the 8445
Re: Opinions on the New JL Lineup

volts anymore doesnt really make that much of a diffrence, you can get a quiet audio system running as little as 2 volts. goint up to 8 isnt that huge of a diffrence.
