Faulty Headlight "switch"
Tuesday, March 15, 2005 12:01 PM
Hey fellow J-body owners! I was wondering if any of you had the same problem I do with faulty "multi-switch" sticks. The part that has the headlights and cruise control switchs together. I have the problem where the low beam lights won't stay on, but the parking lights do. If I position something behind the switch/stick that can apply a little pressure, vawala, it'll work. But the second I need to make a turn signal, it's off again. I've replaced the stick several times and it'll work for about a good 6 - 8 months and then it starts up again. Any fixes, recalls, or better made parts around? -Raven Z.

I haave the same problem...sometimes it works fine...other times to keep the low beams lit I have to apply some constant backpressure to the stick...like halfway between a low and hi beam click...it is irritating as hell and im just to lazy and cheap to fix it..again!

I've had mine go bad once. Just went to a dealership and got a new one for like $20. Took me maybe twenty minutes to change out. I haven't heard anything about better switches anywhere. Are you running higher wattage bulbs? That seems to be what causes the failure.

You got a new switch for $20??? They usually run close to $100 US for these. Did you know someone there or are you confusing this item with another item you may have bought there.

Also, if you do a serch in the Interior forum, there's tons of info on this problem. Higher wattage bulbs do seem to be a leading cause of damage to these though.
