SPL level?
Saturday, April 16, 2005 8:44 PM
Hey what can your j-body hit??

I entered my car into the stereo contest at a local car show today, and didnt do to bad. I have 2 12" Infinity Reference subs in a sealed, fiberglass coated, box. A Rockwood 600 watt 2 channel amp. A Pioneer deh-p6700mp, optima red top, and 4 gauge wiring. I hit 137.8 on my best with the amp level half way, and bass boost my reciever set at +2.
Not bad for all under $500!!!

Right now, not much. Once I'm done, probably a 155 or so.

i have 3 HX2 12s (2000 peak 1000 rms) and a 1500d series rockford amp at 2 ohms and i hit 156.2 db the damn bass broke my wing mount and cracked my front windshield, i have a earthquake box sealed the guy said if i got a slot ported box built it would probably hit 4 to 5 dbs higher. the guy inside meetering it had to get out me i was outside useing the remote, but the deck bass was only on zero i usually leave it on negative 8 because it is just to loud for cruzzing and even on negative 8 it still hits harder than the people around here if not i turn the bass up and watch them roll their windows up!!!

^sorry but that sounds totally unbelievable, the install must be amazing... with a sealed box and only one 1500 rms watt amp... if u went ported ud gain only 1 or 2 dbs is my guess and i take it that this was on an old termlab meter

believe it or not it is true it was the meter that hook the the headrest i have no idea what it was called. i kknow it is true and really that is all that matter their is always that one person that bashes on here! and it is a pretty descent install. i also used the Bass Mechanics cd for the test, know maybe the 4-5 dbs higher with a slot ported box is off but i am just telling you what the installer told me.

it might sound high but that is what the meter said so as far as i know that is what it hits ya know i was the 14th one metered if that would matter i don't know but until i go to another show and get it tested again that is what it hits its in a earthquaked sealed box. the time before i had it tested it hit 153 dbs so mybe the meter needed calabrated, but this time my trunck was dyno matted and the last time it wasn't but the meter said 156.2 and that is what i am sticking too. Know when i go July 2nd to the show in Maryland and i get it tested and it hits 153 then i will know that the last one wasn't calibrated right. do you think that the meter would fall out of calibration after 13 cars being tested? holla

well sealed does seem to limit a subwoofers excursion a bit, im not bagging on you or anything, i mean post the slips or video and ill believe you, it just seems outragous considering you only used 1500 rms of power, i have 1500 rms to one sub and dont hit near that high... considering you have way more cone area i can see that u might have a couple dbs on me... but i am tuned to 30 hz... it just doesnt seem all that realistic to me, but i guess it depends on box size, install, car ect... just seems highly unlikely to me

oh and by the way the panels crack before the window actaully breaks... and the only time ive seen that happen is on a van with a ton of subs and music hitting 160+

It would be one of those lovely audiocontrols. Not trying to jump on you man, but there is a BIG difference between that mic, and the Termlab.

Now the only people I can speak for in this post are Mark(sweetnloud), wysiwyg, and myself. If you knew how much effort and time we put into our setups you would realize why we say there is no way you are hitting that number on the TL.

BTW: Tredici, it's not really a "new" meter anymore.

it's not THAT far fetched...a buddy of mine just hit a 152 and some change at spring break nationals....he was running a RF bd1500 on one battery (50 amp fuse) and two stereo integrity twelves. took first place.

BUT that's a professional versus someone who doesn't know the difference between mics'...let alone how one works.

Nice number.

I agree it is probably possible if you put the time and work into it, but it would be VERY hard. Not to mention he said it was at the headrest; yet another reason I see it being on an AC that has the K factor turned up. 156 at the headrest, car closed up, on the TL would be something crazy like a 165 on the dash.

Jason, 7-10 is normally about average. But we all know that if the mic hasn't been calibrated it might as well be on Mars.

well then in that case i am going to renig and go with the first time i got it metered at 153 db because that was at a car show in woodbridge va last year. but it still say 156.2 on the meter the last time. and the driver side window was cracked about an eighth of an inch when i got it metered. and when the window cracked the dash was already cracked and i know the bass did it because i watched it crack during the test. Ya know if i am wrong then i am wrong i am just telling you what the meter said and my setup is all custom, i have spent 3 years getting it to were it is know.i didn't buy this @!#$ and just throw it in. but it still hit 153 at the lowest because that is what it hit the first time and the 156.2 was what it hit the second time.
