Not Running Rear Speakers
Thursday, April 14, 2005 12:43 PM
Ok i saw a thread a little bit further down and though it very interesting that allot of people posted about not running rear speakers. So it peaked my interest.

If not running rear speakers what kind of setup are you running?

I am getting ready to replace my stock speakers and am battling with what to do. I like this idea allot, because my sub already makes the rear speakers act crazy

So i am curious.

I don't need no stinking SIG. Wait this is one.
DOH!

Basically, you'll hear to use an adapter plate, and put a good set of 6.5" components, amped, up front, or go with full kick-panels.

I have a 5.25 component set up front and run a set of mid bass drivers in place of the rear 6x9s.

The mid bass drivers help fill the sound gap between the components and subs

kaption 6.5" components with home made adapter plates. kaption 12" sub in the rear
kaption 75.2 amp bridged for the sub, kaption 50.4 amp for the components. right now two channels arent being used on that amp cause im debating on putting my kaption 6x9's in as basically they are just filler and can reall y be heard from the front.
deff get a pair of 6.5s for the front dont go with 4x6's, i had kaption 4x6's and the difference is unreal

Infinity Perfect 6.5" component set amped from an Alpine V-12 amp. No rear speakers, cause they just get drowned out by the front speakers, anyways. Plus, I like my realistic soundstage.

but when u run w/o rear speakers, and u do have someone in the back...or say your sitting in the back (just for the sake of the question) wouldn't it sound weird? u would hear the bass from a sub in the trunk really well and then the rest of the sound would sound far away since its all up front....or..?

Nobody rides in my back seat. Plus the seat will be coming out eventually for the full subwoofer setup and amp racks.

Basically this is what I've been meaning when I say you don't need any rear speakers. The 6x9's in the rear are only there to provide bass for a car stereo when a subwoofer is not present. Also when your sitting in the car you hear the music coming from the front, its how are bodies were designed. We're meant to hear from in front of us, so why would buying speakers and putting them behind us be of any use? To save on expenses its easier to buy a good/great set of mid tweet components and get a nice install done. However if your doing a full digital 5.1 surround sound in your car then obviously you'll need those rear speakers but unless your doing that there is no real reason to have the 6x9's.

I have 2 sets of RE components in my doors. Each set has 300 watts. I've never seen the point in rear fill unless you are running a surround setup. When I first built a wall I never put rear fill in and haven't needed it since.

it all depends on the setup. most people run to much bass so most people can only hear the bass anyway.

i work way to hard for the money i make, so im going to spend it on myself, not for my buddies in the back seat, if they want speakers back there, they can buy some and donate them to me.

go to any concert, where do you stand? u stand facing the musicians, i want my system to be as close to a live performance as possible therefore i get as much of the sound up front as possible.

i really wouldnt suggest midbass in the rear either, frequencies above 70hz are localiseable, meaning u could close your eyes and be able to pinpoint where the sound is coming from, so i'd even suggest running your midbass up front.
