Harness Hell

2002 Sunfire GT....

It Came with a double din size hole where the radio should be. In this hole is what looks to be an after-market harness to plug into a GM radio with most of the wires crimpped to the original wires. The out of the plug are of a lower gauge then there factory counterparts and they are labled. Well one is not labled and is connected to the ground wire. In the trunk there is a Monsoon amp with many wires that have wire nuts in them. That looks at one point in time been cut for some reason.

Picked up a Monsoon head unit off eBay cheap and It should be delivered today.
I would like the following Information verified and a photo of an original harness would be nice. so that I can verify pinout.

Orange 12v Always
Yellow 12v Switched
Black Ground
Gray Illumination
Brown Dimmer
Pink Power Anttenna

Tan FL+
Gray FL-

Light Green FR+
Dark Green FR-

Brown RL+
Yellow RL-

Dark Blue RR+
Light Blue RR-

Ok, got the radio in. The aftermarket harness plugged right in. Lights up and says CALIBRATE then it went to an FM station, no sound. put a CD in, no sound.

Harness Question:

What color wires go to the following pins?

B2, Switched power, there was no Yellow or other power wire in the dash
B6, Unmarked, This was the one rigged up to the ground
A4 and
A6

I'd like to hook those hooked up so i can get it in the dash.

Kinda intresting.
My plan Get it in the dash and take it to a dealer to be reset.

Yeah, since the deck doesn't match the car, you'll have to take it to GM to have it reflashed. That is the procedure, in case you take it to a shop where the idiots don't know anything (it's a common problem, since this is an unusual procedure).

Here's what I've got:

The Monsoon deck connector:

Pin, wire color, function
A1 purple Class 2 (from BCM)
A2-7 not used
A8 tan LF+ (to amp)
A9 gray LF-
A10 light blue RR-
A11 dark blue RR+
A12 black ground
B1 orange +12V constant (from fuse panel)
B2 not used
B3 pink Radio on signal (to amp)
B4 gray Interior dimming input (from dimmer switch, for lights)
B5 black ground
B6 purple Gain control signal (to amp)
B7 not used
B8 brown LR+
B9 yellow LR-
B10 dark green RF-
B11 light green RF+
B12 not used

The Monsoon Amp connector:
E = blue, F = gray

E1 light green RF+ input (from deck)
E2 tan LF+ input
E3 gray LF- input
E4 light blue RR- input
E5 dark blue RR+ input
E6 brown LR+ input
E7 yellow LR- input
E8 black ground
E9 black ground
E10 pink radio on signal (switched +12V from deck)
E11 orange +12V constant (from fuse panel)
E12 orange +12V constant (spliced to E11 above)
E13 black tweeter LF+ (output)
E14 yellow tweeter LF-
E15 dark blue speaker LF+
E16 light blue speaker LF-
F1 dark green RF- input (from deck)
F2 light green tweeter RF+ (output)
F3 purple tweeter RF-
F4 red tweeter LR+
F5 purple tweeter LR-
F6 dark green speaker RF-
F7 orange speaker RF+
F8 purple gain control signal (from deck)
F9 not used
F10 white tweeter RR+
F11 yellow RR-
F12 not used
F13 dark green woofer RR+
F14 light blue/black woofer RR-
F15 light green/black woofer LR-
F16 blue/white woofer LR+

I hope I got that all right... this is what I'm working from:

What they've probably done is cut all the wires that output from the deck, connect them to the speakers... bypassing the amp altogether. Or at least bypassing part of it.

UPDATE:

Took car into a dealer to be reflashed.

Tech said that the programing did not go through and said there was a speaker was shorted to ground or battery.

paid $77 for that.
pissed.

Get into car notice that the radio now says MONSOON not CALIBRATE when turned on.
I'm asuming that the programming worked.

over the next few days I reconnected all splices in the wiring and noticed a melted ground wire in the trunk for the amp. this was covered by eletrical tape.

I also found splices under the passanger kickpanel/lower door trip and rewired those.

Now when connected the Rear Right speaker buzzes and makes noises when a button is pressed.

I also connected a walkman to the inputs of the amp and finally heard music out of the speakers. So i know the amp works.

Help we need our Tunes.

Well, it sounds like the wires aren't getting there. I'd start over with a fresh harness if it were me, but I also have no problems getting one from the wreckers for cheap

I just wired up my Alpine CDA-7995 (pre-out only) deck to the Monsoon amp and speakers I pulled from the wreckers. It's great, except for the loud POP I get when I use any of the buttons on the deck. Sounds like it is going to blow the speakers

Update #2
Dealer "offered" to fix the radio. (after a letter was written to the owner of the company)

Insted of taking it to a GM service center, (company owns a chevrolet dealership) they took it to a local car radio shop. They had this shop just splice and run wires to the dash (under the carpet near the hood release. Yeah the *^*ktards ran signal wires along the driver's side.

Got a good deal on a SONY CDX-F5700.

Relocated the stock radio to the trunk to power on the new radio.

Going to install :
Passave crossovers to the speakers.
200 W amp.
10" subwoofer.
Custom box.
