Hey.. sorry if this has been asked before.. but when I searched all I found was info on the getrag.
I'm going to have to pull my 5-speed Izuzu tranny out of my 97 sunfire to replace it. (going to put a nvg-t550 in there when I find one)
I know how to remove fwd tranny's, but I can't tell for sure by looking at my car if the tranny will clear the subframe and crossmember or not. Will the thing just drop out the bottom once I pull it off the engine or not? When I replaced the clutch on my Sunbird it was a pita, and I'm hoping this car won't be like that.
If anyone that has done it could let me know... Ide greatly appreciate it.. I kinda need to plan ahead before I start tearing it apart in the driveway.
As far as getting the nvg-t550 to clear putting it in... well I guess I'll have to find out when the time comes..
Thanx guys... I'm really not looking forward to this, but it needs to be done.
When I replaced mine, I had to drop the subframe a few inches. I got the isuzu out with the subframe in, but I couldn't get the NVG up in there without dropping the subframe down. The NVG is a bit bigger than the isuzu. I'm actually in the process of taking the NVG out and putting a Getrag in. (Sycros went out in the NVG). If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask, otherwise PM me and I can give you my number and you can give me a ring.

The first time I pulled the Isuzu, I loosened the subframe bolts and dropped it an inch or 2. The second time I removed it I didn't touch the subframe.

On mine I removed the shift linkage from the tranny. Then it involved pulling it back. Rotating it 90 degrees, sliding it forward and it'll drop right out. But it's a 2.2 transmission, I dont believe that it can be done with the 2.4 tranny (slightly bigger?)
yo weebel, are u crazy, u dont even think to ask me first
take off the driver tire, pull out the plastics and junk in ur way, remove the crossmember, and cut the corner off ur subframe and ur set it will come out the side no prob

ha ha... thanx Gary
I still havn't found one yet... depending on the price... I have a family member that will loan me the money if I don't have it at the time, so when you decide what we've talked about... let me know either way man.
The fact I cant justify not putting in a lightweight flywheel and stage 2 clutch... will probably delay the instalation when I find one though..
