So Im having trouble (for the first time) finding a new or reman diff. for my Isuzu.
So where can I find one?!
Hopefully someone can chime in if I'm wrong, but I think the diffs out of the SOHC Storms will fit including the axles. If I'm not mistaken the diffs out of the DOHC Storms will fit but the axle won't (axles too small?). If I'm correct that would be better since base models are a lot easier to find than the Gsi model. These are much stronger diffs compared to the GM spec'd cast diffs.
Hmm I dunno I cant find a diff anywhere. If I can tow the car back to my shop tommrow I plan to have the tranny off tommrow night and cracked open to solve this puzzle.\\
What is the FDR on these?? Are these also compatable with the Getrags, or are these an izusu diff only? Try your local bone yard to find them Chazz, if you dont have luck there try somewhere like junkyarddogs.com
The FDR depends on what motor it was attached to
Impulse/ Storm SOHC has a 3.83
Impulse/ Storm DOHChas a 4.117
GM Isuzu Trans ( 2.2 ) has a 3.58
GM Isuzu Trans ( 2.4 ) has a 3.94
Isuzu parts are not compatible with Getrag parts ( Except for Team Greens LSD )
You can also get a stronger diff from a pre 95 Isuzu trans. Mine is from a 90 Sunbird

I dont have a way to get one at th local junkers, no way to pull it.
Chazz there is a base model Storm at the Pull a Part in Buford Ga. That may be a bit of a drive though, but the internals are definately better.
I used to have a Storm Gsi, but can't find my repair manual so I don't know whether or not the subframe is a problem. I know on my Cavalier I ended up wiggling it out by hand for the most part. Isuzu tranny is fairly light.
Personally on a junkyard pull I wouldn't cut it no slack. Cut the shift cables and wires, take off the axle nut, pop the ball joint with a fork and big hammer, and if the axles didn't pop easy I'd cut the boots and hope it's a tripod style (although on driver side the axle would still probably have to be out for clearance). Unbolt the bell housing and snatch it out straight to the ground since all you need is what's on the inside.
Thanks Jason! FOund out the tranny i can get local for $350 is my best option!
350 you can get a F23\NVG......
no Diff issues too.

No idea what that is,im new to the trannys....
2000 up FWD GM cars got the Getrag F23, 90-94 FWD GM cars got the NVG T550 or the HM282. both of which are alot better than a the isuzu tranny.

But none of them are a direct swap, plug and play right?
NVG, all you have to do is make a once inch "extension" for the shift cable.
