Holy crap! i just spent the last 15 min calling around trying to get prices for mounting and balancing... 100 bucks is the cheapest so far! WTF is up with that! 25 bucks a wheel. That seems like rape.
i got lucky with mine , and i could do it at vocational for no cost . But yea i called for balancing it was like 18.99 a tire ... its crazy for something that is so freakin easy.
Well so far the cheapest i have found is 99.50 after tax... but at pepboys
. Well if they sell aftermarket rims and say they won't scratch them, well i guess its a go.
Check your local Sears. Mounting and balancing for 26.99 for all 4.
Maybe for non-low profile tires. Sears wanted 95 plus tax...Everyone i called I asked whats the price for mounting and balancing?... they would say somthing like 14 for both. I said ok awsome, is that for all sizes? They say... what size are we talking about... 17"... the go..OOOO.... 24 and on up i got for mounting and balancing. I got all the way up to 45 per tire at firestone. I am not happy... i wanted in on a GP that was going on... but i had to ask the GP starter if i could pay after the GP stopped... dunno whats going to happen
Yep.... the reason for the high price is for the stick on, or tape style weights, and a couple extra minutes of shop time adjusting the machine to place the weights in the right spots, hidden behind the spokes and well... just because. If you really find that to be too much, if you look on the inside lip of your wheel, if there is a roll to the lip like a factory ones, then you can have them use regular hammer on AW style wieghts with a static balance. It will skratch the wheel the tinest bit where the wieght is goin, but as long as the wieght is coated... it shouldn't cause corrision... Static balance is only about 40% accurate... but if the tires run smooth and round on the balancer, they won't cause a vibration anyways. So if the price is really a concern.. thats the way to get around it... they will only charge you like 5 or 10 a wheel for the regular wheel balance...

How much for a regular hammer on wieght balance, only on the inside, as in static balance??
They will tell you the price, then ask them if there AW or MC (might work as well) wieghts are coated or uncoated lead. If they are coated.. then your set to go... Thats the cheapest alternative, other then just not balancing them at all... Unfortunatly the aftermarket wheel industy is a 30 million PLUS a year industry... and everyone wants a slice of that cash cow....

I have never dealt with 18's, but 15's and 14's.
195-50-15, take off one wheel, put on another wheel, and balance with tape weights only. No valve stem replacement, since they were new with the new wheels. No tire disposal. $10 per tire at a local tire shop.
205-60-15, take off old tire, put on new tire, new valve stems, and weights only on back. No tire disposal. $12 each at Goodyear.

185-60-14, take off old tire, put on new tire, new valve stems, weights anywhere since they are steelies. Tire disposal. $8 each at a local mechanic.

wow thats high. i got all 4 of my 17's mounted and balacend at a local rim ship for 30 bucks
if it werent for the balancing... i would say put on your stock 15" and get it aligned, then just put your 17's on...
or if i could remember that you were talking about MOUNTING and not alignment...hahah
