How to get rear hub off of the drum brake?
Monday, March 28, 2005 2:56 PM
Ok, I broke 2 studs on the passenger side and one on the drivers side. How does the damn hub come off? Everyone said release the parking brake and it should just come off. I've tried pounding on it from the back with a hammer and no luck. Any suggestions?

I did the same today. Just keep hitting it to loosen it up. Mine came right off.

I think you need to loosen the brake or ebrake behind the hub, once loosened, the hub should come off a little easier.. still may need to knock it out of place.. but should have to hit it very hard..

after time a groove will develope, and part of the brake will rest in the groove.. untill its backed out of the groove.. it acts like a kindof lock.

YES! Problem solved. My future bro in law/mechanic, beat the @!#$ out of it and popped right off after the hub attempted murder with a hammer. Talk about rust. Sheesh. All good now.

Crap, look for a future write up on this from me. For those few that have the same damn prob I did. I'll snap a pic of the freakin rust on the garage floor. Man, I still can't believe how much that sucked.

You're talking about removing the hub from the brake backplate, right?

When I was replacing my rear brakes, I looked at it for a while, scratching my head, trying to figure out what was supposed to come apart. It looked like it was all one piece.

A few hits of a hammer took care of it though. heh.
