50mm offset too much w/ 17x7 wheel, 215/45-17 tire

Sorry to post another "will this work?" post, but no matter how much I try I can't figure out offsets. Like the subject says, is 50mm offset too much w/ 17x7 wheel, 215/45-17 tire? According to TireRack, it fits my 03 Cav. And with that offset, what other size tires would work? Please try not to direct me to another site. Just break it down for me like I'm an idiot. Thanks for any help.

50mm would place your wheel on your strut.
It won't fit

u need

225/45/17

anywhere from 40 - 45 mm offset

50 would be perfect for me.

If you're getting a great deal on them or something, you can make them work but you may need some spacers and longer lugs.
