Well, what's gonna happen is that your speedometer is going to read too slow. Example, your speedometer reads 60mph, and you're only travelling 56mph. As well, your odometer will climb faster as your wheels are spinning more to cover the same amount of ground.

If you're looking into wheel and tire packages, contact the company and try to get a 215 or 225 wheel and tire package price. It shouldn't be much more, and will keep your car much happier.

I may not know much about cars, but I know two things....
1) Breaking things is expensive, and
2) Horsepower isn't cheap.

Check with tirerack.com. They'll even mount and balance em for you. I got mine there, and got a really good deal. They even have a function on the website that'll let you see the wheels on your car.

I also have 215-40-17 tires. I havent seen any problems with my speed (doesn't mean they don't exist). This is just my observation. I love my tires. They give a low prfile and look great (Kumho 711). Just my .02

I'll have a sig someday....................

what is the difference between a 215/40/17 and a 215/45/17?

We'll use this size for the example 215/45/17
the first # stands for the wheel width which would be 215mm
the second # stands for the side wall thickness which would be 45mm
the third # stand for the whell diameter which is 17 inches

so basically the difference between the 40 and the 45 is 5mm. So the 40 is a lower profile tire

hope that makes sense

IS COMPLETELY WRONG.

the 45 is the PERCENTAGE of sidewall compared to the width.

Yeah, as Viper said.

Click my sig for details on this stuff. Having small tires not only looks funny but will hurt your gas mileage as well as racking up the miles quicker.

40 sidewalls on a jbody go best with 18" rims. I have 45's on mine (17" rims) and I think they look great. Of course, it's my car so I'm biased
