anyone that gets aftermarket rims...make sure you find out if u need hub centric rings...

i for one needed them and found out the hard way...all five studs that the lugs screw onto sheered off and my rim came off along with breaking my glass fenders and ripping my skirt off...

so anyways i just thought i would let those of u know who didn't know that u might need them to deffinately find out...

hope i could be of help

and what a time for it to happen 3 weeks out from the bash...oh well...

That's good it was low speed. Otherwise who knows what would have happened. I got lucky that wheelmax included the rings.

for those looking for hub rings...

get the size of the center bore of your wheel. our hub i believe is 53mm or 53.1mm

call discount tire direct. i got mine for 21$ us shipped, and they are metal. the place that wheelmax uses gives you plastic rings for $40

i thought the places have to include them with every order or at least inform the buyer they need them? at our shop a guy didn't tell the person (mechaninc didn't say anything when he put them on) and when their wheel came off we paid for the full damage..fired them both too.

It's also important that they lugs be properly torqued, off the ground, in a star pattern.

Even with the hub rings, improper torque (both too much and not enough) can lead to snapping lugs.

i doubt it was from not having the hub rings

people have gone years with out them , and never a problem

i bet it was a different problem alltoghter with yours

ive got a spare set ill sell for $20 shipped if anyone wants them. i ordered a set from one place w/ 3 day delivery...after 7 days they still werent here, so i ordered a set from a different place. 2 days later the origional set arrived. so i ended up with 2 sets. the set i have is sived for a J body hub (duh) and konig wheels(possibly other as well). the outer diameter is 70-something MM. i can measure them at work monday if anyone wants to know for sure.

I have heard many different things about hub centric rings and what they are used for. I have heard people say that they help reduce the risk of studs breaking, then I have read/heard that all they do is reduce vibration. But I do know that improper torque can/will lead to studs breaking. So whats the truth with hub centric rings? Can your studs break if you don't have hub rings, but still have your lugs properly torqued?

It's possible, though less likely when the nuts are all properly torqued. You still have forces on the lugs that they're not supposed to be dealing with.

Basically, they're cheap and easy to get. There's no reason not to use them. So everyone should have them.

So I guess stock rims have THAT perfect of a fit that the wheel won't be bothered by gravity when putting it on the car? That's pretty cool. I saw someone mention wheelmaxs are plastic, yea they are, but they do the job, and they didn't cost me $40, they were included.
