Quick Wheel/Tire Question
Thursday, March 11, 2010 6:34 AM
Hey guys,
so over the winter I bought four MB Boost Wheels, since the weather is finally clearing up I figure I better get going with the tire search...

I've done a bit of searching on here, and I've found that the tire size I should be looking for is 225/45/17. Is this correct? The wheels are 17x7...

The only thing throwing me off is that I have two mechanic buddies, one said I need 215/45/17 or 215/50/17(?), and the other one said 225/45/17 would be perfect but that there might be some rub... So I figure it's best to turn to the pro's for a solid answer.

Also, do you guys have any recommendations on a specific tire that works good without breaking the bank?
Thanks
-Matt

A 225/45/17 will keep you the same as your stock size. I'm pretty sure stock is 195/65/15 and there is no change in size and will keep your speedometer the exact same.

Those two sizes are close enough to stock to be usable. I'm running 215/45 just for more of a low profile look. SRT-4s come stock with 215/50 so you'll see J's with those wheels and that size because there's no reason to change it. You won't rub with 225/45 and quit listening to your mechanic buddies lol

225/45/17's are what I'm runnin on my 04 cav, and they are great Nice to have that extra width over stock.

I just put my wheels on 17 by 7 and used 225/45/17 no rubbing yet and i live on a dirt road. The tires i bought are hankook k106's after reading tons of positive internet reviews. They are directional and i like the look alot, grip well so far. Supposed to really breck in and have lower road noise after 500 hundred miles im getting close to that and have noticed them quieting down. They have the best treadwear rating for the money I drive alot and didn't want anyhting that would wear too quick. They are 90 on discounttire.com but i got a better deal mount and balacned at my local shop for 445.

I just put 215/45/17 tires on the SRT4 rims I've got. Then again those are 6" wheels. You said you've got 7" wheels, so 225 should be perfect.
