I've tried looking all over this forum, but can't find the answer I'm looking for. I currently have 225/45/17 on my Z. The tires I am interested in doesn't come in that size. The closest they have to a replacement size is 225/55/17. What are the pros and cons of a 55 over a 45 for our cavaliers?

They are going to be taller and slightly wider. I'm not sure if they will clear the front lower string perches.

the 55 will be roughly an inch taller overall. clearance may be an issue as stated above.

Those are 26.7" tall, my winter tires, 205/75/14 are 26.1" tall and barely fit, they are very close to rubbing but don't. I highly doubt they will fit without rubbing, offsets and everything will play factors but I think they are too tall.

why are those tires so special that you HAVE to get them? Id find a different tire and get a 225/45/17 still.

The higher sidewall will result in a bit more of a cushy feel but also dramatically affect handling. You will notice more pitch and roll, as well as less grip during faster cornering due to a sidewall that has more flex. IMO, stick with 45series with your 17's. They're the standard and best compromise between comfort and performance. Also easier and cheaper to get.
