17s and 16s

So on my new cavy I want to get new tires which I plan on procuring from discount tire direct. Now wider tires means more rubber on the road which means better traction, what I had in mind was to have 225/50/16 on the rear and 225/45/17 on the front and I don't want to go larger than a 17 on the rear or front. Would that provide better traction and still be somewhat accurate for my Speedo? I read the effects of upsized tires but didn't see the answer to my question or I did and just don't realize it.

What I want is traction and stability over accuracy of my Speedo but I don't want to be going 60 on the Speedo and actually only be doing 50. Or would it be better to just have either the 225/45/17 or 225/50/16 all around to achieve the traction/balance I want? I do plan on lowering my 04 coupe about 2" so that is also a factor but that will occur after I get new tires/rims as the tires on her currently are sad.

I would stick with the same size wheel/tire all around. The sidewalls will react differently during cornering and could potentially cause an unsafe handling condition of you run two different size wheels.

Ah, did not even think about that as a possibility. Which size would you recommend then?

16" would be a better ride but the 225 45 17s are what allot of ppl are running.

Elaborate on better ride, like smoother & more stable? Because what I plan is to lower Jezebel(my 04 cavys name) 2" and have ttrs dog bone, ecotec upper mount and solid 4t40e mount so would the 16s still provide a better ride despite all that? If I go 16s I'll be getting these rims http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/findWheelDetail.do?bp=5-100&fl=&yr=2004&pc=54231&counter=1&wd=16&rw=7&vid=007681 17s would be these rims http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/findWheelDetail.do?bp=5-100&fl=&yr=2004&pc=46995&counter=2&wd=17&rw=7&vid=007681 which rim wise I prefer the white but in the end what will provide better stability is the winrar.

As for tires I think either the geostar remex RX-615, Cooper Zeon Rs3-a, or the Kumho Escta 4X ku22 in 225/50/16 and for 225/45/17 I think either the Kumho Escta Asx, Hankook Ventus V2 Concept 2 H457, or sentury uhp. Not too pricey but all look good, rated high and the tread seems to be rather gripping I suppose is the word I am looking for.

16's have more sidewall so they won't ride quite as harsh. 17's have a shorter sidewall so steering inputs will feel more direct.
