tell me he's wrong!?
Wednesday, February 23, 2005 11:53 AM
Just got back from the Chevy dealer to figure out why my check engine light was on. got raped the $30 to run the code and find out its because I spliced the O2 sensor wire to extend it to the new down pipe. (which oddly enough was close to 1 month ago and no CEL till now) anyway he cleared the code and told me it would pass inspection so I left, but not before explaining to him my plans to do a cluster swap to a gauge with a tach from an 04. He said that that would not work. TELL ME HE"S WRONG! I just bought a 2004 cluster (in awesome shape) and a reverse glow overlay for my 2001. will it work? Is this guy just blowing smoke because he is an all-knowing chevy garage attendant? any help please?

I'm not sure, but it's easy enough to find out. Just plug 'er in and see what happens, assuming the plug is the same, which it likely is.

Circuit city tried to tell me that my dome lights, horn, airbags, low beams, and hvac lights all depend on my stock radio. BULLSHYTE! I corrected him, so hopefully he won't mislead other customers.

he is wrong. you can plug it right in, and it will work. my buddy just did the same thing to his cav to get the tach, and it IS a plug and play setup.

if it works be sure to go back to the dealer and prove to him it works.

I don't know guys...it came today and doesn't look pretty...I can't be sure but I think the electrical connector on the 00-02's were wider and a different shape! (it has been a week or so since I have had the dash apart) is it possibe to splice an 04 connector onto the exsisting wires? It sounds good...but....i'm just not sure

does anyone have any pics of their 00-02 cavy gauge cluster connection? I'm not even going to rip the dash off just to find out the connection is different on the 04's

i think you just got a bad cluster. I have heard people swap out cluster all the time. But i have always heard to make sure you get a cluster from the SAME YEAR car as yours. Maybe since you got one from an 01 thats your problem. Try to talk to someone who lives near and has the same year car as you do and try their cluster in your car.?

well problem resolved...the PCM was sending the signal that the old cluster would be expecting. all I had to do is disconnect the neg bat cable and reset the needles...works like it was meant to go there now. just waiting on my new reverse glows

i wanted to know if a sunfire cluster would go in my 97...the one with the tach. i like it better then the cav one with the tach... will this work?
Re: tell me he's wrong!?

what's the deal here? I put an 04 cluster in my 01 and the tach will read right for about 2-3 hours. THe pic above shows all the needles going screwy but I reset them all and now just the tach goes off. after the engine reaches a certain RPM it seems like it gets stuck or something and zeros out @ 4,000 when I shut my car off. why is this?

i'll post a pic later. anyone have any relevant feedback ( I don't want to hear it is a bad cluster because it swaps/works fine in my friend's 01 cav)
