Ideas For Glovebox?
Thursday, March 30, 2006 5:31 PM
Hey. I am in the process of fiberglassing pods in my doors for speakers. I made a temporary mount for them, and realised that on the passenger side, it comes very close to my glovebox. Now my glovebox is off getting repainted, so it won't fit when I put it back on. I know, I can move the mount down a few inches to make it fit, but I was just wonderin if anyone has any good ideas for the glovebox?

I am planning on putting a lcd in the dash where the radio and hvac controls are, and a ps2 in the glovebox. So anyone have an idea of what to do instead of putting the glovebox cover back on?

Make some sort of slide-ot tray for the PS2 (or a laptop desk for tuning --use the glovebox lid as a cover so it "looks" more-or-less stock, but the cover flips down outta the way when the "drawer" (for lack of a better name) is opened. Hell, even use a washer fluid pump motor to make it electric.

Only problem is that I cannot put the glovebox cover back on, because the speaker pod is in the way. I was thinking of maybe fiberglassing the glovebox and mounting the PS2 in it. Only thing is I would need some type of design so that I can conceal the PS2, so people won't know it's there and won't steal it.

I dont recall the size of the PS2 or the 3rd gen glovebox--its been over a years since I owned either.........but how about cutting the glove box door so the right hand 1/5th or 1/4 is permanently in place (wont come out and interfere with the speaker) and the rest of it is moveable? making it work would depend on the sizes and clearances. If your good with a dremmel it doesnt even have to be a straight cut. curved would work fine so long as no 2 areas interfere with each other.

I like the ideas so far guys. Think i'll probably do a combination of them. Won;t be doin this project for a while... atleast until my door panels are just finished. But I just wanted to make sure I had an idea of what to do before I continued with the door panels.

im not sure how it would work or anything but, something like a door on a track might work. Kinda like a garage door, put small slats made with a brushed aluminum front on a track that goes underneath the dash. Have the door latched and when you want to put it dow unlatch it and run it down the track. Just an idea though...
