Custom In-Dash Sirius...THIS time it's done!

Many of you are familiar with this project - the problem was with the trim around the whole thing popping up. Well I have fixed THAT problem with nice flush-mount allen screws. Now nothing will pop up again, and I feel that the allen screws provide a nice automotive touch. I also added a little black trim around the radio itself to cover the gap around it. It's next to impossible to template the Sirius shape AND compensate for the curve of the dash, etc.

I'm extremely happy with this project's success - third time was the charm! I had originally planned to do the 1/4" trim in silver brushed aluminum but the graphites looks much better I think.

Next Project: Brushed Aluminum door speaker grill trim which will also be allen screwed in (5 or 6 around the oval) I have a LOT of allen screw ideas but it's best not to overdo them or the inside of my car will resemble a battleship. But I think a few in the doors to blend the dash in will work.

Anyway, nuff said - enjoy these pics!

Thanks - I think the interior is done for now. I'm going to do some more electrical work to get all of my door switches hooked to different things and maybe paint here and there and add a PS2 and monitor but that's about it. I'm just not a fiberglasser or major painter, but I appreciate how the cars that have that done look.

Oh yeah, gotta get some aftermarket seats and a little upholstery on the door panels.

Crap, I guess the interior is NOT almost done...

glad you got that issue fixed, it was the one thing i was worried about when you started. only thing i myself would do diffrently is use a diffrent type allen screw. something black that was a diffrent shape. but looks pretty nice regardless.

Yeah I may experiment with other allen screws...keep in mind that this was gonna be silver brushed at one point.

The local R/C store has a nice selection - I may hit them up tomorrow since its gonna rain here...

VERY nice work.

I like the exposed screws--gives it an aircraft-type feel.

Looks pretty good.... but what is that!? Is that a wire? You should hide that, the teal isn't matching.

Yeah, I've been wiring all kinds of stuff this week, some of it during my lunch hour, etc. Tomorrow is going to be kind of a wire tucking day. I already bought a new thing of zip ties...

Did not realize that was showing when I took the pic - I am normally a little more discreet with my wiring...how embarassing.

Oh, no worries... a few zip ties and a couple minutes and you'll have everything taken care of. Props on the job.

Nice work, i think it would have looked better if you had taken the strip all the way across though.

WOW, that looks amazing, nice job on the install, but I have to agree, that honey comb, just doesn't seem to go. But your install, and carbonfiber looks great.
