McMuffin's build thread
Monday, October 28, 2013 4:16 PM
Well, now that I am starting to mod my cavalier a bit, I decided I will record my progress in a thread. Ditching the steelies was the first thing I did.

I bought the wheels from Jay(qwik2k2z24) I really like the look of the LS wheels, and driving on them is a lot nicer too.
I got a hold of Jay again and bought front and rear strut braces, rear sway bar, and a sub frame brace.
I just installed the strut braces today.

The rear brace gave me a spot to mount my fire extinguisher. Zip ties probably aren't the best way to mount it, but it will do for now.
The next mod will be a new air intake.
Here is a list of other future mods in no particular order:
-Engine mount
-B&M ShiftPlus
-Header(and the rest of the exhaust)
-KYB GR-2 struts

Nice! Love the beefy RSM braces, rare.

I request that you buy all of your parts from Jay for this build. LOL.

Haha, I told him to get a hold of me if he finds any more parts

Looks great man!

I just found an Addco front sway bar yesterday! lol. I'll let it go super cheap.

Did you crawl underneath yet to mock up the subframe brace?

Sub'ed. Which header are you planning on? Lsj pacesetter is typically the way to go, but I'd like to track down one of the custom ridiculous long tube ones. I think amfab made one and there was also another other than the extremely elusive gm long tube.

Jay- I already have the stock front sawy bar, but it would probably be wise to upgrade. I will let you know if I decide to. And I haven't mocked up the subframe brace yet. I will probably do that when I get the installation hardware for the rear bar.
YellowCav- I was planning on getting the pacesetter header, but I don't know if I want this one or this one.

The armor coated definitely lasts longer. I have the painted one and although it isn't in danger of rusting completely through it looks like garage. But again the lsj pacesetter for a cobalt has bigger primaries. Not the end of the world, but for around the same price its not a bad idea.

LSJ header it is then. I know if i get the GR-2's they will be better than stock, but do you think it would be worth it to just go with the AGX's? I am keeping it at stock ride height. I asked this in the suspension forum but didn't get any answers

It's really personal preference. Nothing wrong with GR-2's at stock height and they'll definitely perform better than stock. Obviously the only thing you're missing out on is the adjustability; which can be a lot of fun.

If it were me I'd go with the AGX's to "future proof" the setup. If you would ever decide to go low you could just throw springs on rather than having to buy a second set of new struts. And lord knows you'll have a hard time unloading the GR-2's if you ever needed too.

Well Friday I will probably be ordering the installation hardware for the rear sway bar. Then I will most likely be ordering an intake on the 22nd, maybe even some more parts considering my birthday will be that weekend. After I get the intake, what would you all suggest I so next? Suspension or exhaust?
Here are some older picture of my car

Noting special really. My friend and I have been talking about wanting to go get some more pictures of our cars, so maybe I will have some more soon.

Just a tiny update. I am still slowly saving up for parts. Since I have a broken spring in the front that's kind of setting me back. I plan on buying a replacement withing the next month. After looking at peoples build threads on another forum, I have decided I want mud flaps, so I will also be ordering these soon http://www.rallyarmor.com/product_info.php/basic-mud-flaps-universal-basic-mud-flap-red-logo-p-349
This is a picture I took after the first snowfall of this year.

Dave, I pm'd you.
Well I just ordered the mud flaps. Next will probably be suspension parts. Its either going to be stuff for all four corners, or just a front assembly to replace the broken spring. Also, more pictures.

I like where you're going with that cav! Love the strut bars!

You asked about AGX shocks. I love them on my car. Having to choose between those and GR-2, even with the car staying on stock ride height, I'd go with AGX anytime. This and the sway bars, when on decent tires, you can really piss off drivers with cars supposedly way faster in the curves than ours!

Thanks! I guess I will get AGX's then. Not sure when I will be able to get them though. If Dave and I can work out a deal, it could be soon. if not I might wait until Spring-ish and just get a front strut assembly off rock auto for 60 dollars to fix the broken spring for the time being.
How did you mount your lights? I have been debating about getting some, but im not sure if i would want to mount them on the front of the bumper or mount them where the fog lights go

Looks like you are off to a great start on your 4 door!

Sedan ftw!

I drilled directly into the bumper. The bumper was already dammaged and zip tie fixed on the sedan. But I planned to change that bumper for a new one and then I'm going to fab a light bar and add 2 more Hellas. Probably going to mount them something like how most people do it on their MK2 Escorts. I really like them one over the other with the lower ones slightly more to the outside.

I like the way that looks. Did you have to do any upgrades to the alternator or anything? or were all the electrical stuff fine after you added the lights?

Had a tiny disagreement with a curb last night

A trip to the scrapyard, 150 dollars, and I got this!

She is all good now!

The LS wheels survived, ! just have the steelies on because the tires are a bit better in the snow
