2.25 is widely accepted as ideal for our cars if you're running naturally aspirated. Additionally, this
link should help
You don't need backpressure. You need exhaust gas velocity.
So too large of a pipe will decrease backpressure and gas velocity.
But 2.25 is what is recommended for most 4cyl. engines.
Actually on 2.4L - 2.7L engines 2.5" exhaust is the recoomended size. This is the second exhaust Ill be doing on a Z24 and both are 2.5"
I got 2.5 no problems fitting.
If you are running N/A 2.25 is exactly what you need. You will loose all the backpressure you want but still have the exhasut velocity you need.
If you have boost (Turbo or supercharger) most people recommend 2.50.
If you want to run N2O most people argue between 2.25 and 2.50, simply cuz you're not always spraying, so you dont always need the 2.50.

^ how can you say that it's "exactly" what he need? You don't have a damn clue about performance so how can you say that. all you say is repeat what you saw somewhere so please STFU.
JM - if you just want an exhaust to get a bit more power and not use it all the time, get a 2.25. it will be better for the city and normal driving.
I you want to rev the engine alot and you run "pedal to the metal" all the time, get the 2.5.
If you don't want to spend alot on the Z, get the 2.25.
A 2.5" exhaust will help you alot on the top end where the engine need to push more air out.

will 2.5" exhaust make me loose bakepressure along with a highflow cat? i know that you need backpressure to have performance but will i loose alot of it that it will effect my tourq?
Yes it will because the GM J exhaust is 2". Backpressure is so misunderstood. Backpressure is need to cushion the exhaust valves as they close. If you lose too much you will drop the valve. Enjoy repairing that job. The idea is to head vent the cylinder effectivly with out slowing the exhaust exiting and effecting the vacuum.

WHAT???? I run a 2g with a 20G turbo I need to run 3" at a min. Most turbo cars come with 2.5" stock. I guess you like boost creep and the idea of an exploding engine.
