I've been looking at the possibilites of mods for a couple of months now. However, I am having a slight problem.
I currently own a 1998 Pontiac Sunfire ( Sedan 4-door ) with 120,000 miles on it.
Is it worth dishing money out, and modding it up ? I'm talking exterior body kits, interior design, and the usual modding that takes place. Thanks a bunch
no.
moding cars is almost always a negative investment, modding a J-body is ALWAYS a negative investment

But if you're one of those folks that "drive it till it dies," swap the engine and go back for more
what he said^^ Yes it's fun to do while you are into it and still doing stuff..but then problems start happening with the car, you want a better car after putting 1000's of dollars into your car and want to sell it after it's all finished and realize you might get half of what you put into it. On a car with that many miles..I'd say don't throw too much money into it, put on stuff you can sell easily such as rims, and things like that. just my $.02
no... its never "worth" modding any car...
you mod cause its fun... its just as worth hooking up a brand new car as it is hooking up your current one... if you want to go for it, if you dont then dont

the key is not to get too far. do simple mods that wont break the bank

The j-body isn't worth jack to begin with. So if you want to learn to do mods yourself, the sunfire would be a good venue for teaching you. If you want to pay someone $4000+ just to do a Chameleon paint job and install a full urethane body kit...My answer is definately NO. As you can probably tell from my registry, I am not a fan of exetrior mods before poking around the engine bay first...but that's just me. Either way, as long as you learn something, that's really all that matters.
I like how the Z24s look, and that's the way I'm going to keep it.
it might be worth something one day LOL!
Like 20 Bucks!
I have people wanting to buy my car and asking how much
The only thing I did to mine was the stereo and window tint and a few other things but the look is the same.
I wanted to lower it but nah...

Feel free to take you J-Body hating elsewhere.
IMO the J-body is a great car, you just have to realize its not a supercar or even a sportscar. It's just like the majority of cars out there that get modified by people of your age bracket. A reliable economy car that you want to individualize and improve.
Your car is what you make it. Just don't ever expect to get any money you put into it back out of it. Modding is a hobby not a profession. The only people that make money modding are charging for the installs and custom work on someone elses car.
Now more to the point. With your particular car I wouldn't worry to much about the engine. An intake and catback exhaust will improve sound but not do all that much for power. However you'll be very happy with any suspension work you may do t the car a j-body with the proper suspension work is A BLAST to drive, and capable of almost 1G of lateral force in a skid pad when done properly (more than anyone needs on the street).
Welcome to the club!
Oh and ALWAYS check out the FAQ's before you start posting and asking questions, that way the locals don't eat you alive

I must really hate the j-body considering I have close to if not more than $3k invested in "under the hood" mods alone. I don't think someone who truly detested their car would spend more than a $100. I personally love my cav, and working on it has taught me more about the inner workings of an internal combustion engine than I ever expected to know.

My statement was more of a reiteration of what everyone else was saying. If you were to try and sell it in stock form, you aren't going to get much of anything for it anyways. And no matter whether you have a pretty paint job/ air bags and 20's or if you have all forged internals with a p&p head and a turbonetics 60-1 making 400+ whp, you won't get close to the amount you paid for.
So, if you are going to have anything done to your car (whether "show" or "go"), it would be more beneficial to you to learn to do it yourself. If you are ever at a point where you want some particular vehicle and you want x-mod done to it, you won't have to foolishly waste money on someone else doing it for you. That's just my opinion.

i doubt this streetracerx even looks on here anymore since he has not made a post since he ask this question. but if he ever does, is it worth modding to you?

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
