I drive a 1996 Cavalier (base model), this is my first Chevy ever. I keep hearing a million different things, that I'm just not sure about. Like should I switch back to the conventional (green) anti-freeze or stay with Dex-Cool. The mechanics I work with tell me to go back to the green, while some say to stick with Dex-cool. Also, my little cavalier tends to run hotter then normal during normal driving speeds, but on the freeway it runs at a good temp. I changed the thermostat and put new coolant in, but I'm still getting the same thing. Also after a long day of driving, the steering gets tighter and tighter and the pump starts to whine. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Paul.
first fill out your registry so we know exactly what we're working with. second, when i did my radiator flush i refilled with dexcool. i didn't see a reason not to. my car tends to run just over half way until i get moving on the freeway. if you're worried about it. get a bottle of "water wetter." its a little bottle with pink liquid that you dump in the radiator. i put some in my wife's corolla and it seems to work so far.
welcome to the org.
read A LOT before you post. make sure you've searched before you ask a question or you'll just get flamed and won't get an answer. there's a lot of information here, you just have to find it.
GO PATS!!!
Thanks, I'll be on this site more and more, reading and catching up on my little Chevy. I've owned and fixed Chrysler products for a long time and finally bought a Chevy, so I'm gonna have a few questions here and there about random stuff. As recommended I did fill out my registry and even uploaded a picture of my little Chevy.
If you were wondering why I went from a Dodge to a Chevy is a few of my friends have J-body's and they've had good luck with them. I've had good luck with my Chrysler's (except for that Neon) and finally bought a Chevy, it was available at the right time and a good price I couldn't refuse ($500). It needs some minor work that shouldn't take me all to long. But for 10 years old and 100,000 miles, I think it's doing pretty well.
its a cavalier its gunna have problem but id say its the coolent sensor
