I was just curious if the '03 and up LS Sport's are the equivalent to the Z-24 package. I noticed in 2002 the "cavalier Z-24" and the "sunfire GT" names went away. So is the LS Sport the same as the Z-24?
yes, however in Canada it is still called the Z24.
I would swear my RPO sticker in the glovebox had L61 Z24 on my 2005 LS Sport Coupe but since the glovebox door was replaced (due to an accident), the RPO sticker is gone. The paper I wrote all the codes on to investigate (curiousity killed the cat...) is long gone.
I'm assuming they probably did away with the Z24 nameplate because of the fact the Z-24 motor of 2002, the 2.2 ecotech became the standard and only motor available, so instead of offering the Z-24 trim they offered the LS Sport appearance and suspension package, is that right?

actually, the 24 part of Z24 had little to do with the 2.4 liter motor.
but yes... you could basically say that.
Canada continued on with the Z24 badging after 2002.

oh I allready knew it wasn't named after the 2.4, after all its original motor was the 2.8 v-6. but I do know like midway through 2001 or something they switched the Z-24/GT motor from the 2.4 to the 2.2 ecotec motor. And then in 2003 the 2.2 ecotec came the standard on all trims
the ecotec came out (for the Cavaliers) half way through 2002, and the 2.4 was discontinued.

Personally, I think Chevy should have started the SS badging on coupes after dropping the Z24 name, considering they knew it would be revived for all product lines. I plan on shaving the LS badge of the trunk and putting factory Cobalt SS badges in the same places. Chevy should have stuck the LS Sport moniker on the sedans.
The LS sport is a stupid name, but guess they needed something to fill the gap in before the arrival of the '05 Colbalt Supercharged SS
alright, now I'm confused. I parked next to an older cavalier, 2002 today with the exact same rims and very similar body molding today. Also had the chrome single tailpipe. I thought "that has to be a Z-24" but to my suprise it said "Cavalier LS" on the back. Seems all the Z-24's I seem are lame, and the only noticable difference on the outside is ugly foglights and a liscense plate holder. So whats the deal? Whats a Z-24 and whats an LS Sport?
in 02 the z24 became the LS sport.
